Hi folks!
I have "a question of balance".
I have a Model 15 in 4 inch, and a Rossi .38Special/.357 Magnum 16-inch carbine. I am working on the old premise of a true 'handgun/rifle combination'; one that is in the same caliber for both firearms.
My hand cannot endure the .357 Magnum, or the higher recoil of the .38 special 'plus P' rounds. I have found that I can do well with the 'standard' .38 Special NYCLAD 125 grain rounds by Federal, and that they feed in the carbine well enough.

Now, the 'balance'. The NYCLAD being what would some call 'a carry round', which in utilizing my CHL, I would employ; what other rounds would I use, as on the range, or such, to stay within that '125-grain' cartridfge loading? I know the WinQ4171 130g. FMJ-FP, or the Rem/UMC 130 grain MC exist. How would I balance out the NYCLAD, and with what cartridge, for use in BOTH the revolver(Kframe 4-inch) or rifle?

Yes, I have read of, and used the 158 grain LSWC's, but then again, the ballistics of simplicity ... one round (almost), for both firearms. I'm attempting to keep this 'KISS', the more different rounds for each firearm, the more likely, in a supposed hurried scenario, i.e., 'zombies', SHTF, and so on, to grab the wrong ones for the wrong firearm, at the worst moment, and have two clubs in your hands.

For range work I wouldnt get to hung up on weight. Standard old .38 Special 158 LRN would likely function fine in both. At self defense ranges I doubt the difference would be objectionable. If so just right down sight settings and change for each ammo.

I own both the Rossi Carbine and a S&W M10-6 4". They currently are loaded with the Remington Express .357 Magnum 158 JHP and .38+P 158 LSWCHP.

I am in the process of changing over to to the Speer Gold Dot. Speer recommended the .357 158 GDHP (for 16" Barrel) and .38+P 135 GDHP-SB (They felt it was superior to the 125 GDHP in a 4" when barrier performance wasnt an issue) as the ideal solution with the .38+P 125 GDHP as the one ammo solution.

For defensive use Im highly doubtful of the Nyclad in the Carbine. I suspect it would fragment quickly at that velocity. This could result in inadequate penetration.

Federal Nyclad.38 125 CLHP - 830 FPS
Speer Gold Dot .38+P 125 GDHP - 945 FPS (Recoil +14%)
Remington Express .38+P 158 LSWCHP - 890 FPS (Recoil +36%)
Speer Gold Dot .357 Magnum 125 GDHP -1450 FPS (Recoil +75%)

Try the 23720 Gold Dot and see if its shootable for you in the M15 and functions in the Carbine. To me its a ***** cat in a S&W M10-6.
