I recently saw a post that had pictures and descriptions of the Pre-29 leatherette cases and latches. I've been searching for it and can't find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I have this GB item 1114799630 on the way. After several questions to the seller about condition, it appears to need a good cleaning and Ren Wax. Serial number puts it at a 1957-1958 ship date. As I look at the pictures of the presentation case, it looks like a pebble grain black case with the early button release.
The blue presentation case with a button latch and pebble grain exterior was phased out beginning in October 1956. It was replaced by a blue/black case with a smooth exterior and clasp style latch. When you get your case, there may be a serial number on the bottom in white grease pencil.

Jeff, I just checked over that auction. Yours is S 177XXX. I have a pre with S 178XXX and it came with the smoother black case with the flip latch. Your case looks like the early version, blue/black thicker pebble grain with the button latch. The case, including the interior, looks original to me. My ship date is Feb 1958. Likely yours shipped late 1957 but you won't know until you letter it.

This revolver is from a collection that was owned by a 90+ year old gent. Possibly made in 1956 and not shipped until 1957. I'm betting that S&W was using up cases when they shipped this one. Like you say, I'll know when I letter it.
