Recently I've seen two 29-2 without red ramp and white outline sights. I guess they could've been ordered that way but does anyone know of others that were definitely ordered with black sights?

Also it seems more 19s were sold without these features as well. I find it curious as the early 66s (once they got rid of the all stainless sights) all came with at least the red ramp. It appears those 19s/66s with in target configuration all came with the rr and wo.

Just stuff I wonder about on a quiet New Year day lol.

There are very few 44 Magnums shipped with a plain Baughman ramp and a plain rear sight blade, but they do exist.

Most Model 19s were shipped with plain sights, but could be ordered with a red ramp and white outline rear.

Of course, sights can be changed.

My first partner at the PD bought a blue M29 and later did a home nickel job on it. Years later, he decided he wanted a Patridge front sight on it. I bought one, removed the Baughman ramp and installed the blade.

Very popular add on back in the day (late 70's early 80's) it seemed like every gun shop in the U.S. big or small could install a red ramp on the front and change out your back with a white outlined one.

Here is a 4" 29-2 that shipped October 16, 1967 with plain black sights. The sights were a special order.

In 1977 I bought a used 29-2, 6.5" barrel with a Patridge front sight with a v-groove in the top. Could that have been factory? Unfortunately that beauty is long gone.

The v-grooved Patridge front sight was most likely added and modified as such after it left the factory. The only way to know for sure is to request a factory letter to confirm it's original configuration. Any sight combination other than the standard red ramp / white outline rear would be rare on a factory shipped 29-2 and would have been a special order.
