...is what I've been feeling like lately. Why?

Lately I've felt like I just don't seem to "fit in" with most of what is going on today in society.

I don't have a Facebook page nor do I "tweet."
I drink black coffee, not some fancy creamy sweet concoction.
I prefer a stick shift car, a Jeep is best.
I don't watch television and haven't since about 1981.
I like 1911 autos and S&W N-Frame revolvers.
My rifles have wooden furniture and are turn-bolts or lever actions.
I go to church.
I am married to my son's mother.
I respect my elders (though there are fewer and fewer of those these days).
I have a telephone that is connected to the wall.
I use my phone for talking, not texting, gaming, or whatever.
I'd rather meet face to face and talk than send an e-mail.

Well, I could go on...but I do use firearms related bulletin boards, so I'm not a complete lost cause!

DR505; You must have read my Bio (I'm 65). You've described my life as well as yours. Except I do watch TV (not the news) occasionally, and my revolvers are all K and L frames.

I hear you! I am always a bit surprised at that old guy looking back at me in the mirror. They say that there are people alive today that'll live to be 150 years old. It seems to me if exercise is good for you it should be our generation because I played outside in good weather, walked to school, and rode my fat tire bicycle all over town. Now young people seem to just exercise their thumbs with their electronic games. There are way more overweight young people than when I was in Grade school or high school.

The Social Media was one of the main reasons of the last National Elections outcome.

Change is hard, I know, I used to teach change in a major union shop before I retired.

WWI was won in the TRENCHES, and thank God for their efforts, but TECHNOLOGY wins wars today.

Our countries way of life is under attack on many fronts, PLEASE don't become so complacent.

We still need you to learn and teach others as you go forward.

Old age and death awaits us all, but we have many jobs to do before we reach that place on the map.

DR505, i'm about the same except for the TV: got to have the history channel and whatever baseball is on. i've really felt that way for about 13 years now ever since i left a military town. very few military retirees around here that i feel i can sit and talk to. others don't understand veterans. you're not alone. lee

The word most of us are looking for is "anachronism", A person who seems to be displaced in time, who belongs to another age.
One example of this is Facebook. Our granddaughter suggested my wife and I join. Soon a number of her "friends" joined in, using language we found offensive and asking questions that were personal (and none of their business). I suggested this to these folks and was asked what "century" I came from. Needless to say Facebook didn't last long. Another example is "respect". You hear the phrase "he didn't show me no respect", as if this is something automatically granted, part of our constitutional rights. Sorry pal, you got to earn this and many people today don't even understand that.

I belong in another age, Im 23 and think this world sucks. I love old cars, old music, and talking to old people. Technology is rotting our brains out but Ive grown up with computers and have a love hate relationship with them.... Im stuck in between it feels like.

Well the way I see it the old world don't suck, it's just all these people that you have to put up with. I grew up a long time ago and spent most of my time in the woods and swamps down in South Georgia hunting and fishing. Then Uncle Sam sent me to countries I really didn't want to go to and when I got back things had started to change.

Now days people don't talk face to face anymore they use cell phones for everything. Yeah I got to admit I have one but it's not one of the smart ones. All I can do on mine is talk and send a text. Oh yeah I can take a picture too when I can figure out how.

I think I'll go get me a drink of something and light up a cigar and let the memories flow for a while. I love memories, they make me smile.

It is not that I don't know how to do this stuff (trust me, I do)...it is just that I don't see a reason to participate. Why would I want to vomit up the intimate details of my daily life in 168 character bursts? Why would I want to put my info on a Facebook, so someone I've never even heard of can "friend" me? People seem so superficial nowadays. I know what a real friend is, and it has nothing to do with a keyboard.
