Many of you probably have one or more of these iconic rifles. The Remington 700 is the de facto standard police counter-sniper rifle (90% by most estimates). It's been around since 1962, and is in use by the Marines as the M40 and the Army as the M24. The newest Army rifle based on this action is the XM2010 which has a modular black pistol grip stock. It can be equipped with advanced optics and a sound suppressor. Sporting versions have seen wide popularity since the early '60s.

To start the ball rolling, here is one of mine. It's a police/tactical model in .308 Winchester. It has a 26" heavy bull barrel with a 1 in 12" twist. The stock is the factory-equipped H-S Precision fiberglass model, free-floating the barrel, and set up with a central rail and mounting posts. I call this one my "flea flicker" as I'm sure it will flick a flea off a dog's butt at 100 yards if called upon to do so. This one is equipped with a Burris 6.5x20x50mm Fullfield II scope with a ranging reticle in quick-detachable mounts. It also has a stock pack containing range tables and a shooting log with an attachment for spare rounds. It accepts a bipod.

I'm in the process of writing an article on these rifles for future publication in Dillon's Blue Press, and I thought I'd share the picture that will be used.

I have several 700s. From sporter barreled guns with wooden stocks to PSS Guns. Most are in .223, .308 and .300 Win Mag calibers. I used to buy 700 ADL in 7mm Mag when they were on sale for $275.00 at Walmart and strip the wood and barrels from them and then rebarrel and restock them to the calibers I wanted. Wonderful way to get a cheap 700 set up the way you want.

I recently bought a 1970 vintage 700 BDL in 7mm Mag. It has the blackend SS barrel that Remington used to put on all of the magnum caliber rifles. Does anyone know why this was? Is stainless less succeptable to throat erosion? I have always wondered. Anyway I gave the stock a Tru-oil finish and added a Kick-eze recoil pad. I also put on a Leupold 2x7 scope. I was able to use low scope rings which makes it very quick to get on point when you bring the rifle to aim. It came out real nice. I hope to get to the range tomorrow to see how it shoots.

Although I've had a M722 in .257 Roberts since I was 16, it wasn't until a few years ago that I picked up a M700BDL in 7mm mag with a 3x7 Redfield Widefield for $345. According to the dings on the stock it had been carried in the woods more than it was shot. I am guessing it was traded in because as the barrel heated up from shooting, the point of impact would walk farther and farther to the left. I got it sighted in for that first deer season with it by waiting several minutes between shots. Took it to my local 'smith right after deer season closed and had him float the barrel. It's shot 1" groups or less ever since.

I recently picked up a post 64 Winchester M70 in 7mm mag with open sights and a shortened stock which is still OK for me, for $300. I mounted an older 4x Redfield on it and now am wondering which one to keep! So far I've just kept them both, but it would be nice to add a bit to the S&W fund!

I love them and a 700 BDL Sporter in 30.06 has been my deer rifle since 1979. I lost track on how many deer.
I've since added another sporter in 25.06 and Varmits in .223 and .308.

My buddy and I once at his Dad's range in Iowa shot my Varmit in .223 and his in 22.250 out to 550 yards at 1/2 gallon milk jugs, what a fun time that was and we even hit many of them too.

I'll be watching for the article in the Blue Press.

They’re great rifles.

Have an identical twin in 22-250 with a Nikon Monarch 6.5-20X scope. One of my Prairie Dog guns that I have used out to 400+ yards. With my 55 gr Nosler BT loads will go into 1/4" at 100 yds.

Then there's the 700BDL heavy barrel in .308. It shoots just as well. It's a 1970's model.

Cocked & Locked, I love that 35 Whelen....a buddy of mine has a 700 in 35 Whelen and it is a deer, elk, & hog killing machine.

I use two 700's, one in 30.06 and the other in .243..... between them I feel comfortable hunting Elk down to groundhogs. :D

Gary I bought one in 1976 a 7 MM BDL that was fired less than 20 rd but had many miles in a pickup gun rack, seems like I got it for 140 dollars and it had a shiny spot on top the barrel, no problem I will just touch up with cold blue, thats when I learned it was stainless and plated and then blued it still has the shiny spot but shoots great and very accurate. Thanks for the comment Don! The .35 Whelen packs a wallop on both ends. I like it!

This is a hand-loaded 225 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip in the pic below. I've got it set for the Barnes 225 grain TSX solids now.

Only two so far. Near identical LH LSS's. One in .30-06, and one in .300 Ultra Mag. Can't help it, I'm a sucker for the LH LSS variant. Both have Timney triggers. The '06 was bought with the idea of eventually being a .280 AI, but the dang thing shoots around 3/4 MOA with cheap Federal Champion loads. Oops. It will be getting a Zeiss Conquest sometime this year.

I have a Classic in 6.5X55mm Swede.
My friends will not shoot for beer anymore.
Rem factory ammo, 100 yd., 3 rds. A dime will cover the group. First time, every time.
The Col. would find it interesting.
