A return of the Gen3 semi autos...please

Am I the only one who would like to see the Gen3 semi autos make a return?
And yes, I know the cost to manufacture the Gen3 guns would be higher than the cost to manufacture the current M&P lines. But, I am not a polymer gun guy. I like steel and alloy framed guns far more than the M&P9 which I was issued for duty carry.

It's not a return of 3rd gens per say, but Cabela's has NOS and Gander Mountain has some nice looking PD trade-in's.

I'm there with you on the 3rd generation Smiths. I've got three of them and every time I shoot one I think, man I hope I don't break a part I can't replace. Fortunately, they are pretty hardy.
As far as S&W bringing them back, I wouldn't hold my breath, cost too much to manufacture and compete price wise with polymer.

From December 2016 and continuing in the next 3 years about 6,000 nypd police officers will be eligible for retirement. There should be about 2500 gen3 Smiths for sale. All of them should have been made in Massachusetts too.

But I wonder what a quality tuned DAO S&W Gen3 would feel like? Never shot one in that guise.

The 3rd gen DAO's were, IMHO, some of the finest pistols ever made.

I still carry my 3953 that I bought in 1991.

Agreed on the best semi-auto pistol made , American steel all the way . I have 5 currently , 2-5906 , 2-4006 and 1-4506-1 and have 2 more NIB 5906's headed my way . Plastic is for storing left-overs in the fridge .

Topic comes up about once a month.

My opinion...Meh. I'm not against it but I'm not dying to get one either. I had my phase with them. Nice but I found others that work better. Helps if you look at a gun as a gun and nothing else.

Too many "plastic is fantastic" guys out there and too expensive to be competitive in the market. I have two, lurking at another and I too am not a fan of Tupperware guns. Nothing wrong with them as far as function and dependability, but no collectability in them at all.
