Very sorry for the loss. On the items in question, consider a long soak in kroil and 0000 gauge steel wool (LIGHTLY, you will get the 'feel' of it). I have seen many, especially 1911 service guns, that looked funky, brought back without being re-blued. Keep in mind that these are ~100+/- year old guns and are expected to have some genuine wear.
