A Smell That Reminded Me of Boot Camp

Sweaty old canvas and leather remind me of sticking my head into warbird cockpits at airshows.

I read somewhere that the sense of smell is the strongest trigger for memories.
Like many here kerosene reminds me of JP and engine exhaust. Military aircraft have their own unique aroma - mix of JP, stale moldy webbing, sweat and damp gear. Any and all of those will flood waves of things 50 years pass and long forgotten. If I think hard, I can almost smell it now…..
A certain perfume will trigger memory of my late wife……..

The smell I remember most from basic training was a fellow recruit. We were issued 6 pair of boxer shorts. After 6 weeks, he had five new pair in the wrappers and one very bad pair. Others gave him a GI scrub down. I didn't participate.
