A thought for the day.

I don't know about smarts, as most people are smart about something, but I generally view all people as crazy. The only questions to be answered, are degree, and if they're nice crazy or nasty crazy.

I'm dumb. I work for someone, then I work for myself. I work.

Yet, my nephew and his GF don't work, are living off of the taxpayer and relatives while sometimes bringing home more money than me!

Yeah, I'm an idiot!

I realized long ago that self-discipline and focus are more important to success in just about any endeavor than raw intelligence alone. And I, too, have met some highly educated numbskulls and some indifferently educated but brilliant people.

(Emotional intelligence, the ability to feel sympathy and empathy, is important, too. Few people want to work with or even associate with a jerk.)

My opinion; a degree doesn't necessarily equate with higher intelligence. The workplaces always have at least one person with degrees who are a "Yes" person. These buffoons mask their deficiencies by assuming rapt poses while agreeing with and praising the ideas of their superiors.

Before my retirement there was a just such a person whose job entailed being a supervisor over a medical doctor, dentist and pharmacists. This person had a social studies degree. He required the doctor, dentist and pharmacists to clear any diagnosis or treatment plans with him to see if he concurred.

I judge a person's IQ by their questions. The more questions, the higher the IQ.

Recently brought to my attention, but it took me a little time to fully appreciate this:

Half of the people we deal with are of below average intelligence.

And happier. Every one seems to wants their kids to be super intelligent. But the super intelligent ones get bored, anxious and rebellious. Lots of em seem to have serious social/emotional issues.

As others implied; persistence, ambition and willingness to work/learn hard will get you much further. imo

Dealing with our state government about 30% of the people are below average intelligence. Another 30% can't find their butt with both hands and another 30% don't know **** from apple butter. The final 10%... just don't care.

I am pretty smart, I have a degree, but I got it later in life. Before collage I was military and worked with a lot of young officers; because they has a degree and were officers they thought they new every thing. I worked for a O-6 Lt. Col. Good officer, he knew what he didn't know and let his NCO's do there jobs. He sent we a young LT. told me to train him. I had more problems with him, it was like herding cats in the rain.

Would it be more correct it to say that half the people are below the median of intelligence ?

Here's another little gem I picked up way back in college statistics: "Based on the current rate of population increase, half the number of all the people who have ever lived are still alive."

Or we can listen to the great Yogi Berra: "Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical." :D (Of course, that was long before Sabermetrics...)
