A thread for flawless Shields

I've had the Shield 9mm for 2 or 3 months, early on the eight round mag would self-release from the frame during shooting (4 or 5 instances, two different shooters). For whatever reason that corrected itself and the pistol has fed & ejected everything I've fed it for 1K rounds. It is now my daily carry piece.

I have always been a Glock fan, but I recently got into shooting M&P's. I got a .40 Shield about six weeks ago and was so impressed I followed that up with an M&P 9 Pro and 9c. Great weapons, all three have been perfect. I feel like the Shield is the perfect carry weapon I have been looking for for years. Especially with the APEX duty/ carry trigger kit installed.

My loved Shield 9mm bought in June 2012.
Wow. The gun I've been waiting for all these years.
So, I went and got another one, this time in .40.
Hope I'll be commenting in this thread about it.
And not starting some new thread about why I can only type one handed.

Got my 9mm shortly after first available in 2012, over 5000 rounds no problem (I've stopped counting). Initially factory loads, then my own reloads for practice. It was my first pistol, so shot it a lot at first, now that I have more, only about 24 rounds once a week to keep in practice with it. Still my main carry.

Glad this thread was started

I got my .40 Shield this past November, over 500 rounds fired without any issues, using all major ammo brands. For me it's everything I want or need in a pistol and my EDC. I do have the .40 M & P fs for home protection because of the rail light ability. I have been very happy with the M & P line so far

Love my 9 Shield. Just over 500 rounds down the barrel with all diff ammo and no issues. It's my first gun and EDC when not working on an ambulance. Got my wife a 9mm as well and a close friend to buy a 40. They are all loved.

Shield 9mm, had failures to feed a round three times in the first three mags. Since those first mags, has 500+ rounds with perfect functioning.

M&P9C has never missed a beat in 500+ rounds.

I feel totally comfortable with either for self defense.

Shield 9- 2500+rds zero malfunctions, shield 40- 1200rds zero malfunctions,m&p 9fs-2500+rds zero malfunctions.I stop counting at 2500. My S&W rifles and revolvers have all had the same great reliability as my pistols. Maybe I've just been lucky, but it seems like good quality parts and craftsmanship to me.

Shield9...over 1300 rds...4 failure to fire (hard primers with Aguila 117gr HP and 2 FTE with WWB). I've shot several other brands too numerous to mention without fail...including steel case stuff...I deem it worthy of a CCW....

40 Shield in November of 2012. 750-1000 rounds so far.
No issues, enjoyable to shoot. 40FS 2011, 1,500 flawless.
Bought a M&P 22 last year and my wife doesn't hesitate to
go to the range anymore.

I bought my shield 40. in November 2013 and have put every type of ammo I can through it with out a single problem in over 500 rounds.

No problems out of my 9mm shield bought in Dec 2013. I have ran 350 rounds through it so far being a mix of 115gr fmj, 124gr +p HP, and 147gr HP.

My shield 9 has 200 rounds through it so far and the only problem was when my 14 year old son pulled the trigger the first time. He limp wristed it and a FTE. Other than that it has been perfect.

9mm Shield flawless after 500+ rounds.

It runs kinda like the seven GLOCKs I own, three of which are in the "kaboom-able" 40 S&W caliber. Over 18 years of shooting them and not one hiccup... Not once.

I guess my lone S&W auto pistol is in good, 100% reliable company!

Flawless .40 Shield

My wife and I carry the .40 Shield. Never a problem except for her. She limp wrists guns. Small revolvers, small semi's, large semi's, all of the above. So she has had two stove pipes. But sometimes when she shoots, the recoil causes the gun to point straight up in the sky. So it is not the guns fault. She would most likely be better off with a 9mm or a .380.

I keep a fairly detailed shot record for my carry pistols.
The reliability of my Shield .40 so far:

ROUND COUNT
648 x WWB 165gr
248 x WWB 180gr
248 x Rem UMC 180gr
98 x Fed Champ 180gr
48 x PMC Bronze 165gr
48 x Tula 180gr steel
48 x CCI Blazer 165 Alum
18 x DRT 105gr Frangible
Total: 1404

FAILURES
Total: 10
Fail to Feed: 4
Fail to Extract: 3
Fail to return to Battery: 2
Fail to Eject: 1

FAILURE DESCRIPTIONS
*Three of the Failures-to-Feed were back-to-back-to-back in the same magazine which was disassembled, re-assembled and fed just fine thereafter.
*The fourth Fail-To-Feed was my father dropped the slide slowly on the first round at the top of the mag the first time he fired the pistol.
*All of the Failures-To-Extract involved Remington UMC.
*Both of the Failures to return to Battery involved Tula.
*There was one 'stovepipe' with WWB 165.

BY AMMO
The highest failure rate was with Remington UMC.
There were no failures with PMC, Fed, DRT, and WWB 180gr.

BY TIME
There were 6 failures in the first 500 rounds.
There were 3 failures in the next 500 rounds.
There was 1 failure in the last 404 rounds.

RELIABILITY
Overall: 99.3%
Last 500rds: 99.8%

Bought my 9mm shield about 10 mos ago and 1250 rounds later I've had 3 stove pipes. Those happened exclusively with Winchester white box I was using on 2 different occasions. It chews up anything else, even every defensive round tested to date.

I'm over 10k rounds through my Shield .40. Most of which is used as the 9mm conversion. I've heard some people say that my recoil spring should be due for replacement.

But i always say........Dont fix what isnt broken.

600 rounds down the pipe on my .40 Shield, not one problem to date.
Pistol is bone stock, and that is not like me do leave one alone.
But it has been a pleasure to shoot the way it is, so leave well enough alone.
