A thread for flawless Shields

I have two 40 shields both have been flawless. Mine has well over 500 thru it and the wifes has at least 300 thru it.
Have shot many brands of store bought ammo as well as some hand loads my father in law did no +P
All 165 or 180 FMJ or JHP.
Love these lil guns and I have no plans to stop carrying or shooting mine.

I keep a fairly detailed shot record for my carry pistols.
The reliability of my Shield .40 so far:

ROUND COUNT
648 x WWB 165gr
248 x WWB 180gr
248 x Rem UMC 180gr
98 x Fed Champ 180gr
48 x PMC Bronze 165gr
48 x Tula 180gr steel
48 x CCI Blazer 165 Alum
18 x DRT 105gr Frangible
Total: 1404

BY AMMO
The highest failure rate was with Remington UMC.
There were no failures with PMC, Fed, DRT, and WWB 180gr.

RELIABILITY
Overall: 99.3%
Last 500rds: 99.8%

I'm curious about the felt recoil with the DRT 105 gr. Most of the ammo you listed I also have, my 40 is still in the box. DRT shows velocity at 1450, energy not listed. The others are 1100 or less, energy 450 ft/lbs or less. I'm just watching and waiting for more info before the 40 comes out of the box. The DRT I have will be for range use, not convinced it's a sd round, save that for another discussion. No issues with my 9 Shield.

^^ TailRunner: I had hoped the DRT 105s would be much lighter recoiling, but that was not the case. They were softer, but just barely. I actually alternated them with WWB 180 in the same mag and could barely tell the difference.

If you want a soft shooting and affordable target ammo, I would recommend PMC bronze 165gr FMJ. (item 40D)

The kinetic energy of a 105gr projectile at 1,450fps would be 490ft-lbs. I very much doubt that you could achieve that velocity out of the 3.1" shield barrel. A more realistic velocity might be 1,300fps which would produce a KE of 395ft-lbs.

The DRT frangibles appear to be pressed and lightly sintered or polymer bound Zinc powder in a typical copper jacket. I would expect very poor penetration and would strongly advise against that ammo choice for self defense.

Got my 9 mid '13. Must have been made on a Wednesday cause I've had no issues after 2K rounds. I did install the Apex kit tough, mine came w/ a >8lb trigger pull. All good now, and shoot it as good as my FS guns.

I have the Shield 9 and no problems whatsoever! Over 600 rounds and all is still well! Only problem I have had is not a single hog! Much less a 300 pound one! :)

One Shield, zero problems! (replaced an LC9 with the Shield and never looked back)

My shield is 9mm and has had no issues whatsoever, this is with HP, lead, and FMJs.....factory and reloaded

Absolutely love the gun

About 500 rounds through my Shield 9. So far so good! Only issue is the white dot came out of my front sight, but S&W sent me a new one. I ended up painting the original orange.

It's more accurate than my G17, or maybe I just shoot it better!

Own two Shields both 9's about year and a half old. My EDC has 3100 rounds and hers has about 2700 rounds. Both take everything we feed them without any problems.

I got my Shield 9 in early 2012 just after they were announced & so far it has been good to go with no probs. Great carry gun feels good in the hand, and I like the safety, for when I pocket carry. :)

Have had my shield 9 since 10/2012.
At least 2,500 rounds without ONE SINGLE malfunction. Carry Load is the 124 +P Gold Dot or the HST 124 +P.
That Shield 9 eats everything Reloads, 115 124 127 147 grain ammo.
Great little gun

Ran 100 rds of WWB 180 gr today in my Shield 40........no hiccups, belches or kabooms........she's still perfect after 700+ rounds downrange. :D

I've probably got about 700 or 800 rounds through my 9mm Shield with no issues. It's been a combination of Blazer Brass, WWB, and reloads and then maybe 50 to 100 rounds of Critical Duty, Federal HST, and Gold Dots. I added the apex kit the first week of ownership, but it wasn't because I was disappointed in the trigger. I just wanted to see about the apex hype. I've been happy and it breaks clean at 5.5lb dead on target.
