A troubling article

If you take a literal interpretation of a Form 4473, I'm afraid Mr Boehner may not be that far off the mark.

This raises some questions that Boehner should answer.
What is the percentage of mass killers in relationship to people considered to suffer from anxiety or depression?
At what level of these ailments is a person considered a threat to society?
How do you explain killings by people who were never known to suffer from such conditions?
Since these questions are so difficult to answer by mental health experts John Boehner is hardly qualified, though he is entitled to his opinion.

OK, assuming for the sake of argument that there are X million dangerous head-cases running around, isn't it a bit off the mark to simply go after 2A for these folks? Shouldn't they be put somewhere where they can't harm themselves or others? I mean, if we can conclusively assert that X health status = Y societal risk, wouldn't it be irresponsible to not round 'em up?

This isn't my grandparents' America, that's for sure.

I think there should be something done about the shrink that deemed him "not a danger to himself or others" less than a month ago.
If diagnosis is that difficult and inexact and just someone's "expert" opinion that you have a problem and might become a threat is enough to take away your rights, it seems we may be back to the Salem Witch Trials......

Truely Troubling

I surely believe that we are always at a disadvantage, it has occurred to me that some of these things have actually been staged so as to keep the pressure on the law abiding gun owners. How do we counter these recurring events that so-called Deranged individuals continue to commit?
We absolutely need for cooler heads to prevail while figuring a way to prevent the absolute complete loss of more than our Second Amendment.

I heard on the news that the Fort Hood shooter was only allowed a single day of annual leave to attend his mother's funeral. Take a guy who's on the edge, and perhaps doesn't fit in as well as others, then have the guy who approves his annual leave go out of his way to make life even tougher on him by being totally unreasonable by only giving him a single day's leave for his mother's funeral and you have to wonder what else was going on. Not to excuse the shooter one iota, but people need to be sensitive to other people's well being.

"We" are at a disadvantage not because of politicians as much as a lack of "common sense." Folks dicker back and forth over nonsense which is what the political process (and both sides) want. No one wants solutions because if the problems are solved ain't much need for wonks. Joe

Some of these psychological evals end up being "rubber stamps" in both the military and police forces, and there should be less work load, and a back up assessment system in place where there is any small question. A look at this guys sheet should have shown he was not pleased with the events of his Army life. But, having said that, it is difficult to predict what any individual might do, especially in a military society where there is a very concrete way of posturing ones self. Better trained shrinks with more experience and time, and without pressure from above would help, but that ain't happenin'. Rumors say that guys in a-stan with obvious problems are being railroaded into less than honorable discharges so no care will be forthcoming(?)

I wouldn't consider myself a DANGEROUS headcase.:D

An excellent example of the inexact science of psychiatry. Small wonder that some folk flat out do not believe psychiatry is science or medicine. I think the trick-cyclists do the best they can with the information given, so it is not going to be 100% correct every time. Hey, nobody said it was, or will ever become, a perfect world.;)

If they can't be trusted with a gun, why let them drive a car?

An excellent point, especially if you have ever driven in this city.:eek::eek:

I think down the road the politicians are looking for that sandyhook, newtown,ct. vote. They have intentions of running for office in the future. They don't care who they step on to get there.

This last shooting at fort hood was a 9mm pistol so will the 9mm pistols be called the next assault weapon. Wait and see what move the anti' s make next.

There is no great pick for our next president wait and see how many will play the anti gun card.

Plus its a cover up where our government is failing too our people coming home from war all need to be looked at to see if there ok or not. The ones who need help need to be processed slowly not pushed out the door saying your ok. These people have been through a hell for our country. We owe them the best care our government can provide.

We train them for war now we need to retrain them so they can be civilians again. We need to untrained them for war.

My concern is that unless we stand strong no matter who is in office they will sell us out if they see a benefit in doing so.

So regardless how we feel about the NRA we should become members we we are not already. We should be registered to vote if we are not already registered. We should vote if registered. We should introduce ourselves to our elected representatives and our concerns to our local, state and national reps. We can only count on ourselves.
