I have been a Costco member since they opened in my neighborhood over 20+ years ago and usually go there with my wife 2 - 3 times per month (we entertain a lot). While I do also use other Supermarkets and local stores to supplement items that Costco doesn't carry, I do purchase the bulk of our items at Costco.

Since this Pandemic started, our local Costco has truly "stepped up to the plate"!! They started the trend of opening up an hour earlier for Seniors, letting First Responder's cut to the front of the line, wiping down shopping carts, and installing plastic shield between the customer and cash register operator.

Of all the stores I've been to over the past 2 months they are the best run, immaculate, best stocked & most organized of all of them. They regulate a "one per person" policy on the most coveted items and are very very well staffed with COURTIOUS Employees!! They are also about the ONLY store I've seen that has kept their prices at normal levels and don't take advantage of our situation. I've never seen "long term employee retention" like I have at Costco and I know many of them on a first name basis, including the Manager.

I recently read an article in the Wall Street Journal that in March their sales volume increased by 1.5 Billion (for that month), however their stock actually fell 3.5%! This wasn't too hard to figure out....... Everyone is now buying food, which is NOT a very high profit item for Costco and the other items they normally sell at this time of the year are not selling well. People are just walking bye the Patio Furniture, Grills, Clothing etc. which is where they make higher profits.

No matter how many people are on line to get in, no matter how busy they are, the lines always move fast, the store's employees are well trained and organized and again - always curious!

I always though Costco was the best and this Corona crisis has only upped my opinion of them!! :)

Kudos to Costco, their employees, managers and stock holders.

Agree with all you've written. We've shopped their senior hour a couple of times, and they run like a safe well-oiled machine. The two other marketplaces, Publix and Walmart, we've gone to aren't even close to being as well run.

My only complaint is that our local Costco lets InstaCart shoppers (it's a shopping service) in at 0600. We've been entering the store at opening and seen them exit with items that were gone when we got in the store.

I like them even more now.

Face Mask Requirements

To protect our members and employees, effective May 4, all Costco members and guests must wear a mask or face covering that covers the mouth and nose at all times while at Costco

They are the model of how to get people out quickly. No answering polls, rewards phone # etc etc etc... the stuff that makes me loathe going to my local LameMart or CVS.

They get it. I'm done, I got my stuff. Just let me pay & go home!

Ummm... they are also the model of getting you to run up a $200+ bill... $19.95 at a time! :D

Glad to hear that Costco is doing a good job, Chief!

I'm curious if you meant "curious" as in, "How many of that coveted item do you have in your cart there, sir?," or whether "curious" is a typo for "courteous.":)

A typo...... There are plenty of things I'm good at - typing is definitely NOT one of them! :D

I edited the post and made the correction - thanks for pointing it out!

Costco has announced back to regular hours, still with early senior hours.
The have added one condition to previous conditions such as limiting 20 people in at all times, that is, a mask is required.

We were there 10 days ago with mask so no big deal. We went in with a list and got out quickly. Please respect others waiting in line. No need to visit every isle.

They have it down pat with sanitizing carts, and keeping count of how many enter and exit. A well oiled machine.

Other businesses can do the same, there is no reason why limited access should not be allowed.
They are opening up, with some limits, N.C., very soon, thank God.

Our local Trader Joe's does that, too, well organized limiting of the number of shoppers allowed in the store at one time. Come to think of it, noticed that my local liquor store was doing this as well the other day.

A sensible and appreciated precaution, in my view.

Macy's announced they are opening many of their stores, again with limited access. They have a policy of not restocking items that come back as returns, or clothes that have been tried on, for at least 24 hrs.
All employees will be retrained and take extra measures to protect themselves and the public.

As Robert Irvine says in Restaurant Impossible, " let's get to wuuurk" :)

The stores here do not require customers to mask. Wish we had a Costco in our area. The closest one is around 60 miles away.

Costco rocks. Best store around, Puts Sams and BJs to shame
High quality meat and there warranty on anything is the best.
But, for the ultimate in shopping there, shop in Florida in season on a Sunday (after Church) when they get the free samples up and running again People milling about with a cart and one item in just grazing.
But you still get through check out very fast.:)

They are also dropping the hammer on the "family outing" shopping trips for the near future. Please make it permanent.

I was at my local (40 mile drive) Costco on Tuesday for Geezer hour. As I was parking I noticed a lady with a case of TP in her cart.

Went in with my list and blitzed through the store. TP was not on my list, but didn't see any back by the paper towels. I asked at checkout about the TP and they said it sells out pretty quickly. I was out of the store by 0900.

I don't miss the food sample carts.

When I stopped for gasoline, I put on my nitrile glove to handle the pump & nozzle, something I have done since before the Wu Flu, as it keeps my hand from smelling like gasoline. The attendant nodded and smiled, and as I was leaving, she came over to the pump and sanitized everything.

Costco does a fine job for their customers, in my experience.
