A Wish for S&W...

I can't imagine that S&W doesn't monitor this forum to see what it's fans are saying, so if this isn't the place to post this, please feel free to move it...

Given the enormous popularity of the original Model 38 Airweight Bodyguard, as evidenced by the high fees they're bringing on sites like GunBroker.com, I would ask S&W to consider reviving the piece. Not in stainless but in blue. With the advances in technology and metallurgy there's no reason to keep such an iconic item on the pages of their history books. The new 638 is an option, but there are many of us "purists" who prefer blue. Maybe others will agree. Maybe not. Just my wish...one man's opinion.

I agree with you. I really like my 638 Airweight, but I much prefer blued handguns. Additionally, the extra weight of steel would make the .38 Special +P a little bit easier to shoot and control.

I agree & also believe they would sell. But the marketing geniuses at Smith go by market studies & po-po input, blah blah blah. I also say it comes down to cost making them. Retail could be too high for good sales numbers?

Keep in mind, this is the company that just released a 10-shot SS revolver for $1200 MSRP. So retail will be in the mid-to-upper $1K mark. For a .22 revolver.

Why would a good quality 22 revolver be any cheaper than a centerfire revolver of comparable quality?

Unlike semiautos where 22s can be blowback instead of using a locked breech about the only manufacturing differences between a 22 and 357 revolver is the number of chambers that have to be machined into the cylinder. Cost should be about the same.

You can buy cheap single actions revolvers made of zinc if that is what you want. But its not what I want. I don't want junky guns in any caliber.

I would not pay $1200 for a 22 revolver but I would not pay that much for a 38/357 either. But I don't regret buying a 617 a few years ago despite costing as much as a K or L frame in a larger caliber.

It just seems like it can be possible for a 6-shot revolver could be "slimmed down" a bit on the frame & so forth from a K/L frame but not yet to J-frame size? Wouldn't less steel = a lower price? I don't know, I'm not a production engineer. LOL!

It just seems like of all people, S&W could come up with a decent .22 revolver for $6-700? I have a 617, King Cobra .22, 17, 18, etc but they were priced well below $1200. Not really being critical here, maybe just disappointed?
