Can an new A2 buttstock finish be polished to look like an M16 buttstock? I like the black, shiny look, but I don't want to mess up my A2 stock if it's a no no. The Colt A2 stock has a grey-ish looking finish. Is that for gripping purpose? It doesn't match the hand guards either. I know I could search for an m16 buttstock. Just wondering. Thanks!

I'd try a small inconspicuous spot up near the lower
receiver...wet sand with some 1000 grit wet/dry paper
and see how it comes out.

Just wondering, I never saw a "brand new" M16A1. Did the stocks come with the black, slick, shiny butt stock, or were the ones I used just worn down. I bought a new Colt AR and the stock has a dull, blackish, finish. Sort of a very light peach fuzz feel. I may just try and buy a used M16 stock and save the original in it's new condition. I suppose they are the same?

The A1's had a slick surface, not really glossy but definitely not
flat or matte. The A2's had much more of a matte finish, with the slight texture you described.
