AB Arms Handguard doesn't fit

Which Magpul MOE do you have? The current version is a mid-length gas system and requires a longer hand guard. If this is what you have, the carbine length is too short. As far as what to do if this is the case, return it?

Nope, the new MOE is called the MOE Mid. Mid length gas system is supposed to shoot softer. Carbines can have either the carbine length gas system, or the mid length gas system. Just return the hand guard, or offer it up in the classifieds.

If you don't mind my asking, why would you buy the Magpul MOE version if you were going to replace the Magpul furniture? Just curious...
When I bought mine the furniture was the furthest from my mind. It felt good and it was nice that it came with it, but the barrel was the selling point for me.

I can certainly understand that. If you wanted the 1:8 twist, 5R rifling, on a 4150 barrel, you only had two choices, MOE or VTAC II. And of those two, the MOE is certainly cheaper, plus it had the Magpul DVDs.

Plus it being a mid. Still not sure how much of a difference it made but I'm glad I went that route if only to say I went that route.

The designation of "length" is very confusing. There are:
Rifle length barrels which are 20" long.
Mid length barrels which are 18" long.
Carbine length barrels which are 16" long.
Carbine length barrels which are 14" long.
The list is almost infinite and none of the terms are standard.
Then there is the gas system. These are:
Rifle gas system.
Mid length gas system.
Carbine length gas system.
These are not related to the barrel length at all. In fact, you can have a rifle length gas system on a carbine length barrel. I've never seen one, but it would fit. The carbine gas system is ~7", the mid is ~9.5" and the rifle is ~12.5". It's anyone's guess where the measurement is supposed to be taken from. It's enough to know that if you get those measurements close, you can then use the terminology to buy matching components.
I got lucky and guessed that I had a mid length when I bought my free float forearm. It fit like I wanted it too.

why are you changing it? everyone in here seems to think hand guards are all the same.....and don't make a difference either way!

I'm guessing this was aimed at me... Never said hand guards are all the same... never said they don't make a difference... Just most people who buy a MOE version do so because they want the Magpul furniture. Most don't pay extra for furniture that they intend to replace.
I personally had the AB Arms handguard on a couple of different rifles, originally I had it on my Sport and then I put one on a build. They are a good handguard, very comfortable. I do not know about now but back then the upper rail on the handguard didn't align with the upper rail on the receiver. That was my biggest complaint with that one. I also used the one with out the upper rail. I like it also but I never have been one for hanging tactical stuff off of my handguard. The only reason I sold mine was I free-floated the barrel for better precision. Magpul is a great company, offering some nice parts, I use them but they were almost the only game in town and I seem to support the underdogs...LOL
