I have a 5903TSW that I love and carry almost daily.

It is a police trade in I got in the spring that was unissued, new in the box.

Here is my question. I would like to have a big brother for it - 45 auto.

I know that the designation 3 at the end of the number means Alum. frame. So would the matching pistol be the 4563TSW or the 4566TSW which has the stainless frame.

The part I can't quite tell if they are alike is the saftey.

My 5903TSW has a decocker safety - meaning once the hammer is decocked and the safety lever is left down over the red dot, the hammer will not lock back. I love this feature and want this on a 45.

Please advise me to which of these models has the same features as my 5903TSW.

Thanks,
Allen

Yes, you are looking for the 4563TSW. Aluminum framed like your 5906TSW.

The 4563TSW safety works identically to that of your 5906TSW.

The 4566TSW operates the same as well, but is the steel framed 45 version.

I have, and carry the 4563TSW. Its an easy carrying, reliable, accurate 45. Regards 18DAI.

There are good arguments on both sides regarding whether to use the decocker as a decocker only or as a safety. Some departments teach to immediately flip it back up after you decock. Others like to leave it down (on safe).

Jeff Cooper expressed disdain for the device based upon the fact that if you leave it down (on safe) it is difficult, due to its placement on the slide, to take the gun off safe in a full speed draw - try it some time - with an unloaded pistol. Thus Col. Cooper called the device a "dingus" and coined the phrase "Don't get caught with your dingus down."

I always use the safety on my 3913 as a decocker and flip it back up. When I get some extra $ I am going to have S&W convert mine to decocker only.
