About to buy 19-3 in CA, what do you think?

I'm in San Diego and I bet that the next Model 19 that you see in a shop will be over $800, and I don't know when you will next see one. Yes it is a lot of money… but you are paying a bonus for it being in CA already. I also frequent a shop in Palm Desert, which has higher prices than here in SD County.

You can legally import a S&W revolver from out-of-state, but there are hoops to jump through and you need a friendly FFL. Not a chain store, not most shops, but a "friendly" shop. I have one if you are anywhere close to San Diego's North County.

I am about to offer 500 to a friend for a boxed 98% 1970 issue 19-3, 4". After reading this thread maybe should up the offer.

I think that the days of $500 model 19's are about over in Ca.

Most shops are asking $700 and with DROS and taxes you are looking at $800.

You should at least make a lower offer of $550 and see if the shop or owner will lower the price.

You can also check GunBroker to see how current auctions are going and SO CAL Guns, San Diego and Turner's lists used inventory online.

Prices are only going up, so if you really want the 19 go for it.

The asking prices for all non roster revolvers in CA is a joke IMO. I see $700+ asking prices but not too many sales. They are either sitting on the shelves or are continually posted for sale.
One thing I have noticed is that the black gun youth are straying to the revolver side with curiousness. So... maybe we will be seeing more demand.

As for the 19 posted, $550 tops in my book.

My model 19-2 is one of the few guns I will NEVER part with. Best action and accuracy of all my revolvers. You will not regret purchasing one.

When you said you HAD to sell your 696 tears hit my keyboard and I was unable to finish reading you thread as my glasses fogged up. I had 2 and sold both and now they are 800+ or excellent pieces.....:( regrets. I feel for you but a M19 is a great gun to start over with-dan
