For someone new to the forum here. Some(many) posts can be a bit hard to understand. Mostly because us "newbies" don't know all the shortened lingo. Is there a Master list somewhere? Surely someone has made one into an FAQ huh?

BTW I really like the forum and enjoy reading. Even when I can't understand it all!

I don't think so but don't be afraid to ask, even if in a PM to the person that posted theaabbreviation. There is a lot of S&W specific jargon that needs clarification.

OK thanks. I won't mention how long I searched the site looking for a list. I'll just speak up and ask. I finally found out that an IL gun does not come from Illinois, that it has an internal Lock. LOL

Matt

In this forum and specificly to collectable S&Ws there are a great many abreviations used. As long as I've been here I still haven't learned them all.
AFAIK there is no master list. Ya just kinda pick it up as you go along.
But if you mention some you want to know the meaning of, I'm sure somebody will fill you in. We all started right where you are. ;)

BTW: you do realize that you just opened the flood gates don't you? Every clown on the forum will be here shortly.
Might as well sit back and enjoy the ride. :D

Hey, I'm here now!

We are all a bit puzzled.....

I see some that I still can't figure but common ones are:

LEO Law enforcement officer
LGS Local gun shop
CC Concealed carry

Who can think of some more???

Don't hesitate to ask Matto. Matter of fact some in the semi-auto sub-forums with the same letters mean two different things.
Such as F T F= fail to feed, and fail to fire.

I thought I saw a "sticky" here once,(maybe not), but for sure there has been a list or two posted from time to time, with a dozen or so of the most used.

I thought it was a state abbreviation for a short while when I delved into revolvers! LGS, defined above, was a head scratcher for me for a while.

"No dash" vs all the dash-numbers forced me to Google.

IWB. Inside the waist band. Refers to holster for concealed carry.
OWB. outside the waist band.

But seriously. Just ask. Unlike a lot of forums, folks here will give a serious question a serious answer. Pretty good group here.

I'm glad you mentioned this. I'm a noob here too. Never seen the likes of abbreviations that show up in this forum. Lots of them I can figure out looking at the context where used, others just leave me scratching my head a little.

I'll just sit back and watch the clown parade now...:D

TT, TH, TS, or more succinctly "the 3 Ts" ... Target Trigger, Target Hammer, Target Stocks

HE ... Hand Ejector (IE, a S&W with a swing out cylinder)
HEII, HE2 ... Hand Ejector, Second Model

FOID = Firearm Owner's IDentification; a card issued by the Illinois State Police without which an Illinois resident cannot legally purchase guns or ammo within the state.
