Accidental (Negligent?) Discharge

A few years ago in Reading , PA , one officer shot and killed another via AD in the station.

The article gives this description of the shooting: " A live bullet was in Kannedy's gun, and the gun went off." I'd call it accidental if the gun went off all by itself and the operator did not have it pointed at something he did not want to shoot. Since the gun was clearly pointed at the officer and since it is extremely unlikely that the gun fired all by itself it is a negligent discharge.

If I were the Sergeant he shot, I'd be coming back to work as the new Deputy Chief, with a big raise, and a few more weeks vacation each year...
