I heard that on the radio on the way home from the Orlando gun show. Couldn't, and still can't, figure out how that happens. Please post some details if any come out.

Regarding the show, when plain old 90% M&P's start at $499,:( I'm buying knives,which I did. :)

I think a lot of the accidents (or stupidity) we are seeing at ranges and gun shows is due to a lot of gun owners having no training in gun safety. Few people today have served in the military or participated in organized shooting activities. They just go out, buy a few guns and have absolutely no idea how to handle them safely much less how to hit their target.

Now the guy from Ireland gets to go home and tell everyone he was shot in the USA. What a shame.

I was at my favorite outdoor pistol range last week when some guy and his buddy set up next to me. After a minute he comes over to ask me something and I smell booze. He did not "look" right and his handling of his weapon scared the crap out of me, so I packed up and left in a hurry. Did not want to end up in a story like this one. On my way out I mentioned it to the range master.

+1000.I've seen it.

Polk County Sheriff's investigators have ruled that the shootings were accidental. It's not clear if the victims have had any formal gun training.

The article awfully light on details, and what does it matter if the victims haven't had any formal training? Did the shooter have any formal training? If the most basic of rule of keeping the muzzle pointed in a safe direction had been followed those poor folks would be unharmed today. I hope they can fully recover from the injuries.

Holes in the partitions at our local range illustrate that ND's aren't uncommon. I always ask for the lane at the left end because it's easier to keep an eye on what's happening around me...

LAKELAND | A Tampa man’s gun accidentally fired Saturday at a Lakeland gun range, wounding him and two others, authorities said.

Michael Patrick Thourot, 47, had just set down his Jennings 9mm handgun at the Saddle Creek Shooting Range when the gun went off, striking Thourot in the left hand, his wife Sherri, 46, in the left arm, and 29-year-old Gary Flynn in the shoulder and throat, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said.

The incident happened about 10:30 a.m. By Saturday evening, all three were in stable condition at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Flynn was awake and talking after he had surgery.

“According to them, they set the gun down and it just went off and started spewing rounds,” Sgt. Ken Hall said Saturday at the scene.

The gun may have been altered, leading to the malfunction. Hall said detectives will know more once they take the gun apart and inspect it.

Flynn, who is from Ireland, was at the range with a friend who lives in Davenport. The Thourots were visiting the range from Tampa.

Flynn was standing in the shooting stall next to the Thourots.

Detectives say the gun fired at least three times after Thourot set it down facing his wife, rather than downrange, which is considered a proper safety procedure. The gun began to spin, striking Flynn, who stood next to a bench a few feet away.

At least 16 others were using the range at the time. One person helped Michael Thourot to the bathroom to clean up his hand while Flynn lay on the ground, awaiting the arrival of EMS. No others were injured.

The range at 3716 Morgan Combee Road is owned by the county and frequently receives visitors from neighboring counties. Saturday afternoon, the range closed early.

The incident is still under investigation. "

Unfortunately common sense has become uncommon. Point 'em downrange at all times, folks.

not to downplay the seriousness of the event.....I've never been around a Jennings that would shoot 3 times in a row under any circumstances.

I have to mostly agree with you. A lot of us that grew up with guns and had all of our parents and relatives lecture us on gun safety for years before we even got to touch a gun, grew up knowing what to do and how to handle one safely. It seems to be newcomers, mostly, that buy a bunch of toys and end up shooting holes where they don't want them by accident.

Accidents happen to experienced people, sometimes. They happen to inexperienced people constantly.

Well this time of year with hunting season upon us is a difficult time for me at the range. I am not calling hunters unsafe, but a lot of basicly unsafe people show up for thier one time at the range per year and it gets hairy now and then! That is whats nice about being retired, even at this time of year if I show up at the range on a week day at nine AM or so I usually have the range to myself or perhaps another old timer or two. Forget the weekends its the wild west show!

I've been to this range several times. Its a great outdoor facility. They have a range marshall out there at all times. I'm glad I wasn't there when this happened.

:) Talked to a Dealer at a gun show he said he has
seen 5 firearms go off at gun shows. Three by security. Don

Yep. Saw a New Gun Owner at a club this winter, busily loading the mags for the brand-new, just-bought Wonder-Nine.

And inserting the cartridges in BACKWARDS.

We spent some time with New Shooter, who is now up to speed.

It began to spin around and fire on it's own? Was is also spewing pea soup and asking to be violated with a crucifix?

Stole this from another board.

We should collect all the Jennings pistols in the states and send them over to Afghanistan, give them to the terrorists and wait a week. No more terrorism!
