I've owned S&W pistols since my days in the Bureau long ago. Recently purchased a 380 bodyguard. I practice with it monthly. During the last practice, I would accidentally engage the mag release during the recoil. I adjusted my grip, but it occurred frequently. Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions to remedy the issue. I love the convenience of the 380 bodyguard, but it be reliable.

I'm afraid that I can't help with the mag release as I have not shot a Bodyguard, but welcome to the forum. I am sure someone will be along here that has experienced that before and will offer suggestions.

Happened with mine as well. I had S&W replace the plastic mag catch with metal one and it still happened. Bought the metal mag catch from Galloway Precision and problem went away. The Galloway one requires you to press the mag release in as you insert the mag but it doesn't fall out anymore.

There's just no room on that tiny grip so my middle finger always hit the mag release under recoil.

Welcome to the forum. I own one, but that has never happened to me. I have always had to depress the magazine release button to insert a magazine. I have not installed a different mag catch because I bought mine new. I know that some of them inserted that way and some of them did not. Not sure why.

As a south paw w/XLG hands & when I switched the mag button to the right side I had the same issue, bumping the release under recoil. Switched it back and the problem was over.

The Galloway precision mag catch specifically states it is made to deal with the issue of dropping mags under recoil. My original plastic factory mag catch I had to depress the mag button to insert a new mag. It rarely happened with that one. The new factory metal mag catch, it happened every time. New Galloway metal one, hasn't happened once.
