Accuracy M&P 2.0 compact

I heard the Army required their new pistol be able to shoot 4" at 50 meters and the M&P 2.0 was submitted for testing. But when I contacted S&W about the accuracy specs of the 2.0 they wouldn't confirm what group size I should expect. I know that would be off a rest not me but I still thought they could confirm the specs.

I am wanting an accurate 9mm. I currently have a SD 9 and a Glock 19 gen 2. The Glock shoots low and left and the SD 9 shoots dead center but the groups are not as tight as I want.

I am considering selling the Glock and either getting a Gen 5 or 2.0 compact but can't decide. I live in a small town and there is no way to shoot both then decide.

What distances are you shooting? What do you consider to be accurate?

I have the M&P2.0 in full size 9mm and 40 Cal. Unsupported I pull 1 inch at 7 yards and typically 2 inch with a three inch flyer at 45 feet.

I shoot at 25yrs 90% of the time. With my 1911 Govt or RI officer or PPK clone I can hit 5 in steel plates 70% of the time off hand. With my Ruger Mark II I can hit 5in plates at 50 off hand 60% of the time. I would love to have a 9mm that can do that.

With my SD9 or Gen2 I would be lucky to get 25% hits off a rest. I know the triggers are different but I use to have a Makarov with the worst trigger ever but it was my most accurate gun.

IMHO you need to be looking at guns like the CZ Shadow 2 9mm or high-quality 1911 9mm if you want to be competitive in steel plate competition at 25yds. Mass produced service 9mm pistols are not going to be different enough to be worth the time and expense of buying and selling what are essentially the same good, but service-grade pistols.


By the way, what you score offhand is a measure of YOU, not your handgun, and judging from your post, you still have a ways to go to be as good as your present gun, which is true of most of us.


I worked for awhile in USAF testing, and the dispersion of projectiles specified in govt weapons does not translate directly to "group size." I disagree that S&W or any govt competitors can give you "group size" specifications based on that govt testing.

I replaced my Glock 19 barrel with one from Storm Lake and the accuracy went way up for me. Standard rifling versus polygonal.

I thought about a new barrel but I decided to treat myself to a new gun instead. Now, I just have to decide what to get.

I have all three 2.0 9mm sizes & all three shoot about equally.
Upgrades in barrel/slide fit were done in the 2.0s to improve 9mm accuracy.

At 25 yards, mine can average about 2.5-3 inches.
With the right load, holding under 4 inches at 50 yards MIGHT be possible.

The Glock 19X sample I had here did no better.

The M&P will do that if you can do that.

This is quality advice and you should heed it. The accuracy of the M&P and Glock pistols is plenty good enough to hit 5" steel plates at 25 yards. The problem most have is dealing with the slightly difficult triggers.

The worst 1911 is going to have a better trigger out of the box than the best M&P. This is just the nature of the gun. However, with a little practice and concentration you can shoot the M&P very well.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from buying an m&p anything but if you're chasing after accuracy, the Glock will do it. YOU'RE the accuracy.

I already own one. All I own is s&w, I'm just stating that if he believes m&p is more accurate than Glock he should work on marksmanship. I love my 2.0 f. S. But I shoot it as well as any other gun...

You wont be disappointed! My 2.0 compact is super accurate and easy to shoot. Make the move and have fun. Practice practice practice and you should be able to achieve the accuracy you want.
