Greetings everyone.
I'm starting to reload again after a long hiatus. I would usually do reloading marathon sessions and load my range ammo pretty much for the whole year. It's time to start again to replenish my stores and I noticed that I was running low on my favorite .38 special powder, Accurate No.2 jug(5lb). This powder is about 12 yrs old and has been properly stored. Longs story short. I heard that the New version of Accurate No.2 is different from the previous version. Has anyone had any exprerience with the new version or has been able to compare the old vs. new Accurate No.2 ? Thanks in advance for your help.

I would call Hodgdon rather than take someone’s word.

I use #2 and Nitro100NF. Nitro100NF used to be Nitro100, no NF, and was reformulated and the NF was added to distinguish the difference. Hodgdon states there is a difference in the two formulations and not to use old N100 data with new N100NF powder.

I would imagine they’d state on the bottle and on their website if there’s a difference but a simple 2 minute call will clear that up and then you’re safe.

Here’s the number. +1-913-362-9455

Use recent data from reputable sources only. Accurate powders have been made by a variety of powder manufacturers over the years and may vary a little more than other powders. I would bet their consistency is very good these days. If your powder is old, try to match data from that era. If not, do the basic "start low" method.

I never knew Accurate Arms #2 existed untill 2-3 years ago ...
My local dealer had no Bullseye - Unique or 2400 ... but he had in a big shipment of Accurate Powders ... and was having a Sale !

I bought i lb. of AA #2 , the dealer gave me a Reloading Guide (paperback) and I went home and tried it in 9mm Luger , 38 Special and prompyly went back and bought ... AA #5 and AA #9 to try out .

I started reloading in 1967 and had never run across AA powders ...
I could always get Bullseye , Unique and 2400 ...
Get some updated AA Data and make sure your old load data is correct ... I can't help you with the old but I have a Reloading Guide and I believe the Guide is available on line ...
Search ...Western Powders Handloading Guide Edition 7.0 ... there may be a later edition or two 8.0 .

AA9 was my 44 Mag powder, AA5 was my 32 H&R Mag powder. I prefer (just because I have been using it for 35 years) 231 for my lesser power pistol loads. I use 231 for 32 Long, 9mm, 38 Spec, 38 S&W, 45 ACP. I like AA5 for 44 spec also.
