Been wanting one of these for a long time. Helps take the sting out of foolishly selling a 686-5 Mountain Gun long ago. Great balance and lines in my opinion.

Very nice .44 you've found. I found I didn't handle the increased recoil from the lighter barrel very well and sold the first one I had, then ended up replacing it. :D

I still don't shoot the model very well, and I have long since given up shooting full-charge loads. Now I don't shoot anything much faster than 900 FPS or so.

Is quite a shame you let your .357 go. Years ago I prowled around for one but never actually found one to buy. Good luck with your new revolver. :)

My plan is to mostly shoot .44 specials out of it.

Ahhhh, my favorite "Dedicated" Revolver round for sure... 2nd is full-house .44Magnums... for obvious reasons and the tailoring ability of them...

Then we can get into .45Super's (with Moons of course which I also love to use in the M625 4")

My favorite combo of recent is an M629 3" with my Ruger M44 Carbine as they share ammo like cops and nurses get along...

Nice find! My 629-3 has always been among my all-time favorites and in the late 1990s - early 2000's was my most-carried sidearm. I used Elmer's load of a 250 SWC at 1200fps in the outdoors and a Speer 200gr Gold Dot at 900fps for EDC.

The Mountain Gun series is one of their greatest ever. I love that slim barrel profile, camfered cylinder, etc.

Very nice! Tell me about those combat stocks...

They are Ahrends combat grips, round-to-square conversion, but I don't know the wood. Maybe morado. Unfortunately, Kim Ahrends does not make stocks anymore so the used market is all that there is. I really wish an entrepreneur would pick up where Kim left off and make his patterns.

does the Mountain Revolver have a Round butt or square butt? ....in 2010 i passed up a Mountain Revolver for $500 in a pawn shop .because i already had a Mountain Gun in .44 Mag .wish i had got it now

It has a round but. I picked this one up without box or papers, very good condition (not excellent or like new) for $900. It had pachmayr grips and I had the Ahrends that it currently wears.

You answered my question, I was going to ask if it came with the Ahrends grips. Those FG tacticals are one of my favorite Ahrends styles. I had a set on my nearly identical 4 inch 24-3 for years.
