Can someone with more time on their hands than me please post a robust list of acronyms so some of us can actually follow the conversation
While most of the time it is a good mental exercise for me to figure out what they are in the context of the conversation, I'm sure there are many of us who would love to have a reference manual:unsure:

Now this is fantastic!!!! I didn't know what most of these were before. I've seen them but got tired of looking them up. In fact I'm going to copy and print this up and hang it next to my computer. Thank you very much, Old and Retired!

Why do so many folks use the term acronym when abbreviation is the word they seek?

If you aren’t regularly pronouncing the abbreviation such as NASA, SCUBA and FUBAR, then it isn’t an acronym.

Major pet peeve of mine.

Writing etiquette requires acronyms to be defined at first usage regardless of how common.

A practice seldom used even by supposedly professional writers.
You're right. Define at first use, not only as a matter of etiquette but as a matter of courtesy. Our writing and communication skills in general have suffered significant deterioration in the last few years, but many don't care.

Speaking of acronyms, my boss taught me a new one, back when I was an eager beaver up and comer.

We were in a meeting with a bunch of senior executives when one of the senior executives said something that I knew was flat out wrong. I hurriedly passed my boss a folded note pointing out the error.

My boss read the note, took out his pen, wrote on it leisurely, and passed the note back to me.

It said: “DILLIGAS?”

DGF - department of game & fish
DsHK or dushka - 12.7x108 Russian heavy machine gun
POO - point of origin
PSD - protective services detail
ECM - electronic counter-measures
IDF - indirect fire
MSGD - Marine Security Guard Detachment
RSO - regional security officer

Why do so many folks use the term acronym when abbreviation is the word they seek?
Why is abbreviation such a long word?
WYSIWYG = What you see is what you get.

And a really old one from AT&T: WMBTOPCITBWTNTALI - We might be the only phone company in town but we try not to act like it

SAAMI=Sporting Arms Ammunition Manufacturers Institute
My question is-do you call out the letters or attempt to pronounce it?

As was previously stated, the abbreviation definition needs to appear after its first use. And I will add, " in every post that uses it."
