I am looking for people who have actually used Duracoat and can give straight unbiased opinions on it. I have searched but didn't get any real, complete assessments of it's quality and durability. I am considering using it on the aluminum alloy frame on an automatic and wanted to see if others had tried and to what degree of success. If you have pictures, please post them.

I duracoated two CZ-82s and they came out nice after a couple of operator errors. One I shoot fairly often and it's held up well except for the extractor. I don't know if it's the material, the application, the duracoat, or the the fact that the extractor gets such a workout.

Preparation is the key with Duracoat. I bought the 82 for the express purpose of making it a project gun, but it turned out so nice it's a regular shooter.

Check this guys Duracoat work out...

He mainly does plastic pistols, but I see a Colt revolver in his gallery too. Hopefully, he can answer your questions. Haven't done any duracoat myself, just thought I would pass the link on. Good luck.

I used druacoat on a shotgun receiver and a couple of survival knives. Gotta give it some time to cure. Holds up well.

I had a Colt Official Police .38 done, since it was going to be a working gun, and it's held up real well despite being sweated in, dropped in a puddle or two, and shot the snot out of with +P loads. Dale

I have kit built AK-47 with KG Gunkote applied to all of the metal surfaces. I imagine that the two, Gunkote and Duracoat, are fairly similar.

Wherever there is friction from cycling or where there is continuous metal on metal contact will wear through quickly. I would imagine on a pistol you will notice the wear on the slide rails almost immediately. But, then again it is only a very thin layer of paint over metal surfaces that are designed to wear. Overall though this stuff is tough as nails and very solvent resistant. Easy to clean. Very hard to scratch and continues to look good regardless of abuse.

There are two crucial things when it comes to this stuff. The most important being a clean thoroughly degreased media blasted surface. The second is using the spray applied heat cured material. Without those two it will not last.

The stuff is fantastic, and very durable. As others have said, anywhere metal on metal contacts, it will wear, but everywhere else it's really durable.

Here is a pic of my sons Taurus revolvers I had done in Duracoat. They were police used and had lots of holster wear, so I had them done in a unique way. I think they look great.

I would LOVE to see a picture of that colt. Been thinking of doing a well beat mod 15 but have never seen a revolver duracoated. How did it hold up on 90 deg edges like crane edges, cylinder holes etc. ?

I Bought an Arcus 94 from AIM a few years back. All of the edges were pretty sharp, so I had it dehorned and Duracoated. It's holding up perfectly so far and it's been a couple of years.

The slide isn't as shiny as this pic makes it look. I have a habit of oiling all of the metal on my guns before I put them away....even Duracoated ones. This one was oily when I took the pic.

It is a very durable finish.
The most important part is not smudging it or failing to clean the surface well beforehand.

I had my AR 15 both duracoated and sericoated as well as a custom camo job done. It seems to have done a good job holding up. I have a few areas where it chipped at the end of the barrel but otherwise its held up well.

Here is my custom 1911 Kimber that is duracoated. I also attached a pic of my SIG 1911 Tac Ops too. The duracoat holds up very nicely. The only issue you may have is if the pistol has P rails. I had several layers of top coat on each and fitting a laser / sight can be difficult.

Here is a picture of my AR. I thought I should take it out and post a picture of the area where the finish has chipped. Otherwise it has held up quite well.

Those are some nice looking guns! It's settled I am going to duracoat the frame and just stay away from the rails.
