Adam West...

I must have been the only kid who didn't care for the show. I was a big fan of Batman in the comic books, and I was so disapointed in the campy (although I don't suppose I knew that word then) way the characters were played, but the worst was the "BAM" and "POW" that flashed across the screen. And the intro music. Worse than fingernails on a blackboard. I suppose I watched it, after all there were only three channels back then, but it wasn't something I worried about seeing.

Still I did like Adam West when I saw him in something else later on. I seem to remember him in an episode of "Emergency."

RIP Mr. West.
 
I once read an interview where he said he was a little bothered, at first, by being pigeonholed by Batman. He then realized what a gift horse he had been given to ride and ride it he would.

I believe he is one of the planet's most recognizable faces and voices.

I will truly miss Mayor West. Thank goodness for You Tube.
 
I agree with many of the above posters. Adam West was Batman to me also. Interestingly, when I first started teaching college classes, I had a student, big guy, played football, whose name was Adam West. Naturally, his classmates always referred to him as "Batman".

I remember watching those shows back in the 60s.

So we just lost James Bond last week, and now Batman.

I saw him yesterday on The Big Valley. He played a sicko pretty well but he was still Adam West to me. That's right Adam West.

I loved the Batman show as a kid and as LVSteve stated I thought it was funny as all on the reruns when I got a little older.

One of the OTA channels was playing the show a while back and I thought it would be good for a laugh but really couldn't get into it much.

RIP Adam West and thanks for the memories.

If you look closely at that photograph, Adam West is wearing what's basically a long sleeve t-shirt. His gloves look like ordinary satin gloves a woman would wear with a black dress. And under Robin's little lace-up tunic or whatever it is, he's wearing a green t-shirt. The collar on his cape looks like nothing more than a spread collar from a dress shirt.

But really, you don't wanna know what all is in my closet.

No, you weren't the only one. I felt exactly the same way. I was a BIG fan of the comic books, and when this show came out, it was almost sacrilegious. Batman was such a dark, stoic character - nothing like the TV show character. They could have made a campy send up of almost any other comic book character, but not Batman.

And that's not to diminish Adam West and the following he created. R.I.P.

I'm with you guys. Nothing personal against Mr. West, but I can remember waiting with my brother with great anticipation when we heard the Batman TV show was premiering. About 10 minutes into the show we looked at each other and thought what the heck is this ? I couldn't stand the show and the whole concept of "camp" was disturbing and best forgotten.

A little interesting trivia though: The W&C Scott & Son Monte Carlo B O/U shotgun with which Ernest Hemingway ended his life in 1961 was given to a welder in Ketchum, ID to be destroyed. The stock was smashed and the steel parts cut up with a torch. The parts were then buried in a field. Adam West's home in Idaho was built in that field. A few things....

Adam West played in all kinds of things. I first saw him on the 'Outer Limits' and a movie called 'Robinson Crusoe on Mars' which I thought was really cool back then. Stuck on Mars with the ship that could get him in orbit stuck on autopilot.

EVERYBODY wanted to be the villain on 'Batman' and they had quite a host of characters. Also the people that stuck their heads out the windows when they were climbing up buildings was famous, too.

The costumes were iffy, but the Batmobile was cooler than heck.

Don't forget the MOVIE: Had Lee Merriweather as Cat Woman... ROWWWW! It was a BLAST. I like it when they are caught on the street and have to hoof it to the United Nations building.

Lines I remember..

Bruce Wayne is captured by the gang and he gives them a piece of his mind with, "You.........filthy........CRIMINALS!"

They hop in the Batmobile and Robin says, "Let's go, Batman!?" where Batman responds, "No, Robin, you haven't fastened your safety Bat Belt." "Aw Gee Batman, you're right!"

Flower Power, Space Race, great music, great cars and BATMAN were all part of the 60's, the fun part outside of all the awful stuff that was going on.

Tune in next week. Same Bat time. Same Bat channel!

PS I had to come back for this one. One time Catwoman (Julie Newmar at the time) was hanging on a cliff. (It's known that Batman and Catwoman had a crush on each other) Batman held out his hand, and though Catwoman was defiant, she gave in and started to take his hand, but slipped and fell. Batman pulled out a Bat Hankey and started crying.

Mr. West held his own amongst the likes Cesar Romero, Frank Gorshin and Burgess Meredith... those guys could shred the scenery. My brother and I had a blast watching that show esp. the wall climbing scenes.
Like another said, it just wasn't the same watching it years later although I could appreciate the jokes along with the Misses Craig and Newmar better than I could at 7 years old.
Think I last saw Adam West on an episode of Big Bang Theory.
 
I loved the Show,It seemed that just about every big Hollywood Star showed up on it in one way or another,I loved Egg Head (Vincent Price) and the Joker.
