I recently acquired a 629-3 with 8 3/8” barrel. I had one before but traded it away (regretted that decision). That same fate won’t happen to this one. It’s in great condition, having been well cared for (see pic below). Anyway, this one has a “TJAxxxx” serial number. Does anyone know if there is anything special about those serial numbers? I did some searching here on the S&W forum, and only found one comment about a serial number with the “TJA” prefix - see pic below the gun pic. Does anyone know anything about 629-3’s with that prefix serial number?

Thanks.

My 629 8-3/8" (1982) has an N prefix and my 29-2 6-1/2" (1971) also has an N prefix. I do believe that those with the later 3 letter prefix are sometime very difficult to correctly date. There doesn't seem to be any reasonable purpose for their sequence. (Just an old man's opinion.)

Can't help you out on the serial number but will tell you 'congrats' on your purchase of a fine 44. The full lug 8 3/8" barrels can get a little heavy after shooting them for awhile but are excellent at absorbing that recoil!
My dash 3 DX has a BND prefix.
