Good Friday everyone!

Snagged this brand new 4516-2 today and noticed a few unique features that I haven't seen before on a 4516. First is the serrated slide near the end of the barrel. I've looked all morning and have not seen a single 4516 online with this slide. I took a picture of the end of the box so the team can evaluate the special order codes. It also comes with S&W branded hogues brand new in the box.

I picked it up for $480 plus $45 in shipping, as Brand New in Box. It has all the goodies coming, and has come out of a collection that's never been fired. I've been looking for one of these for a while, and was intrigued by some of the special features. Maybe this one was a special run for a distributor? Does anyone else have a -2 with the serrated slide?

Congrats! :)

Ive seen a lot of 4516s over the years. I have never come across one like that. I cant make out the label. What is the SKU? Regards 18DAI

The forward slide serrations aren't factory. Don't believe Smith ever did this on the 3rd Gen pistols. Nice snag though. And a great price.

The forward slide serrations are factory if I'm not mistaken. (I spoke with the owner who bought this brand new and stuck it in his safe)

My PC 5906 has the same serrations on the barrel end of the slide.

Great deal on a great gun! Congratulations. I love my 4516-2, it's a great gun and it does not have the serrations on the muzzle end of the slide.

MY PC DPA 5906 has those serrations also....... but I've never seen anything like it on a non-PC gun........... like the PC 4563 CQB. and some Shorty -40s from the mid to late 90s.(SCS&W pages 370,369)

Can you date the gun????? Serial # VAUxxx ??...looks like mid-90s

Could it be a one off from the PC? or employee build??

Nice score. I was looking at that last night and actually put it my shopping cart before deciding I did not need another 4516. I was intrigued by those front serrations. If it had been a 4556 it would have been gone before you found it.

Nice gun, and a good deal. Congrats.

10Ring, I'm glad you didn't scoop it up! Last night I also had it in my cart but opted to sleep on it before I bought it. There looks like a few more good deals on brand new pistols from the same seller, like the 625 3inch mountain gun. I had that one in my cart too, I decided I didn't need another 3 inch 625 though. Hopefully some more forum members can scoop up this collection.

I think the gun has been through the PC department judging by the serrations. A lot of PC guns including the CQB's and Recon's had similar treatments. Serial is VAU928X. Should be 1994-1995 production right? Would a call into Smith and Wesson help?

Pretty sure that gun was sent back to the factory to have the serrations added since I have never seen or heard of it before. That same store has a 4506 with front serrations also. How else to explain two guns for sale at the same place with the same unusual feature?

My bet is this collector really really liked the style of the front serrations and maybe ordered these direct from the factory as such. It's like a 4516 and a Recon 45 spawned this after a night of too much whiskey drinking. Regardless of if it's a one off, I will be shooting and carrying it.

I hope someone in the coming days will chime in with a like model/features. Think the 4013 single stack shell from Aliengear will fit this too?

I've been around 3rd gen S&Ws long enough to never say never. Back in the day, the Performance center, when it actually was such, would take in customers guns and modify them. They also made quite a few "one offs" while experimenting to see what might be done.

More of those "special guns" made it out the door than you would imagine. And a few had forward slide serrations that look just like those on the OPs 4516-2.

They look just like the serrations on my PC 4566 45CQB.

When I first opened this thread, I was hoping that someone had finally posted pics of the Performance Center 4516. I was hoping up until I saw the SKU.

Anyways, that is a fine example of the craftsmanship and fine handguns that s&w use to produce. Enjoy it! Regards 18DAI

I'm normally not a front serration type of guy, but I really like this one.

Sometimes there are special markings on the box, any indicators? Either way, it's a looker, I like it!

Maybe the 007 03 portion of the special order are the slide serrations and smith and wesson branded hogue grips, similar to the ones on my chiefs special and 4040pd. I can't wait to shoot this firearm!

Did you get that from a place in Montana? I'd been looking for a -2 for awhile, saw a new the box - almost hit the buy button but went to lunch. Came back and it was sold. If that was you congratulations on a great deal. The -2's are hard to come buy and brand new in the box for $480 is a deal. Leeson for today is you snooze you loose.

I did purchase it from the dealer in Montana. I just received it today and it is a time capsule. Brand new, factory grease/oil, all original packaging and paperwork. It came with the extra hogues as well as (3) total mags, yellow followers.

The dealer was very polite, punctual, thorough, and the pistol was packaged better than any other FFL I've bought from across state lines. Between the smooth transaction, great price, and the condition, I couldn't be happier.

I'll grab my camera at work tomorrow and take some more pictures. Stay tuned
