Just picked up this very nice Military & Police 4" square butt. Slight holster wear at the muzzle and other edges the rest of the finish is great, easy 95-97% in my est. All numbers are matching and the ser.# dates it to 1953. Came with the gold box.

Now, that's what I'm talkin about! I was just about to start a thread asking for ideas on what to add to my collection of two Smith and Wessons. I might have my answer. Very attractive gun and box you have there.

that is a nice one!
I have three like that except one has a 5 inch barrel.
when I was with the police dept.we bought 50 just like yours from the army disposal unit.
I got to pick them out and I don't think any of them had ever been issued or fired we paid $20.00 each.

Nice one Mitch.

Ya know, a lot of people describe that type of wear as 'holster' wear, but I'm more inclined to think it's most likely box wear. Real holster wear is gonna show up on more than just the sides of the barrel and the sharp corners on the cylinder.

That gun doesn't even look to me like it's been out of the box long enough to have ever been in a holster.... Not many people would holster a gun enough for it to show any significant holster wear and keep the rest of it in such high/unused condition.

Anyway, that's what I'ma thinkin'
