Adding a RD Burris Fast Fire in front of rear sight possible?

I have this mount that I think I used on a previous 629. The front screw puts tension on the barrel rib. The long screw goes into the forward rear sight hole which is pretty tiny.
I'm hoping to mount an Ultra Dot which weighs less than 6 oz.

That's what I'm thinking too. I think you put a plastic or lead bb under the screw to lessen the maring. Still a couple holes under the rear sight shouldn't matter too much to the next owner.

I would much rather have the factory pattern holes under the rear sight than a marred finish or worse yet divots in the steel. Unless you have a NIB un-fired gun with high collector value I can't see how drilling and tapping will devalue your gun. Since you're shooting it it's value is already determined.
