Is there any adjustment provision for elevation on the 39-2 sights?

Windage is obvious and not a problem. I've two 39-2s so I don't think it's a technique or ammo issue. One of them consistantly shoots about 2-3 inchs low at 15 yards with several different factory loads as well as some hand loads. The other 39 is spot on with the same ammo.

Both were bought used and I don't have a manual for this model. Is there any provision for adjusting elevation other that changing sight blades? If there is, I'm not seeing it.

Thanks!

If it's shooting low, you can always file the front sight down a little. It's a permanent change, though.

You might try some 124 gr or 147gr ammunition; often, they will shoot a little higher than a 115gr, at moderate distance.

Please don't go filing on the front sight of a 39. That's a permanent alteration and the 39 deserves better treatment. Instead, if you need an adjustable sight, do a web search. Millett and others made an easy, non-permanent rear sight replacement. They were simple to install and could be swapped back to original in seconds with no tools. The worked pretty well too.

I personally wouldnt permanently damage the upper slide/ front sight by filing it.

It got me thinking since I have 4 first gen 9's with adjustable sites and always wondered why they went to that monsterous rear site on 2nd gens.
Comparing my 59 rear site units to Smith revolver micrometer blades, The revolver site appears to be much taller and would raise your point of impact.

I wonder has anyone tried interchanging them?
I can try to swap out a pair tomorrow if not but its bedtime right now.
Just an idea.....That is...Besides aiming higher... CHEERS!

Like some above have stated, altering the front sight is not really desirable.

I also wonder about the interchangability of the sight blades from the revolvers. IF one of the 2 frame sizes fits, (J or K/L/N) there is your solution, as there are several different blade heights made to fit different calibers and barrel lengths.

Check it out.

39-2 shooting low

I also have a 39-2 and mine also shoots low. I just put a little pink nail polish to the point where it is on target. This works well for me and did not damage the firearm
