A couple of days ago I picked up an STI Trojan 9mm (see my 3/27 post) and am completely satisfied w/it. When I opened the box there was a brand new, still in the unopened plastic, 11# recoil spring. I have no idea what kind of recoil spring the gun has now, but it works fine (minimum recoil & absolute reliability).

For those more in the know than me (an undoubtedly large population), what is the advantage to changing recoil springs? I don't intent to carry this gun for SD, it is mostly for the range.

I do not know what the "standard" weight spring is for that gun is, but lower weight springs are used for lighter bullets and powder charges. You can shoot mouse fart loads and still have the gun cycle. Also throws the brass right at your feet rather then 10 feet away.

Guys change them a lot in 1911's

10-12#

Hi Old cop,
Most 1911 9mm pistols have 10-12 # recoil spring. I think the STI is a 12# from the factory.
Sounds like a fun 1911.
Mike
