I liked the M60, I carried one for over a year, and stood up behind one in an old M151 as a member of a scout platoon. We had 8 total in the platoon.

M-60 gunner while in D 1/48 INF 3rd AD. I liked the gun but it did have it's problems, broken lugs, pins falling out but I did score expert with it and was on my way to try out for the USAEUR mg tm when i derosed to AK

I carried an M60 as a member of the QRF in the early-80's in Korea. Slinging 24 lbs. of machine gun with a belt of ammo hanging over your shoulder while in the chow line was a bit of a challenge when on alerts.

Never got the chance to shoot an M60, but I did shoot the PKM, the M249, and the M240 while I was in Afghanistan.

The PKMs we had were just about worn out; functioned most of the time. The M249 is OK, but it IS just a .223.

The M240? Now THAT'S a nice weapon.

The Dillon Aero M134D, now that I'd love to take out for a test drive !!!

I was supposed to be a machine gunner with the M60 when I was stationed at Bien Hoa, VN on TDY, but never carried it. I liked the gun a lot and used to love shooting it.

While on the police dept., a buddy of mine, who was in the National Guard, asked me if I wanted to go to Camp Perry with him as he had to do weapons qualification. I went and was watching them on the pistol range, when they were having problems with their S&Ws. My buddy told the Lt. that I was an S&W armorer and the Lt. asked me if I could help fix the guns. I got them working and when they were done, the Lt. asked me if there was a gun I would like to shoot on the range. I said yes, the M60, which I had not shot since leaving Viet Nam. He told one of the guys to take me to the machine gun range, give me an M60 and all the ammo I wanted and let me shoot until I got tired of it. Well, I didn't get tired, but I didn't shoot all that much ammo either, as I really didn't want to waste it. Sure had a ball though. :D

I was a mechanic on a M578 recovery vehicle (1972-75). Normally my weapon was Ma Duece. :D
The track had to go to direct support for some modifications and was gone for 4 months.
Meanwhile they put me on the M-60. I liked it. Never gave me any trouble at all. I much prefered it to the POS M-16A1 most of our guys were using at the time. At least the 60 worked and fired a decent round.

My youngest is National Guard and leaving for Iraq next week. 11 Bravo with an Armored Cavalry unit. They got him on the M240. ;)
