advice needed

There was a gunbroker auction that listed a pistol and showed it sitting in a period correct but not matching numbered box.
The serial number on the box was hardly readable and the revolver never had a picture of its serial number.The ad read something the owner shot it, then put it up. My question to forum members is.......Wasnt it a reasonable assumption to
think the box matched? The title of the ad even said the word
"BOX" . I paid a premium for a high conditioned gun that
came in a non matching box.any comments are appreciated

What to do?
Hard saying. How bad will it bug you? I'd ask the seller for a couple of hundred back and tell him he is a thief.

I mean that's the long and short of it.
It's expensive to ship guns back, plus there is no way of knowing if he will comply and refund your money. Might be best to take your lumps and move on.

haris1 - I would send the seller a message and let him (or her) know that you assumed that the box and gun (serial number) matched and wouldn't have bid on the gun had you known otherwise. Is there anything we can do to remedy this situation.

You really do have to be polite regardless of whether or not the seller conveniently blurred the picture - he (or she) is in the driver's seat - period.

On the bright side - you learned a lesson and shared it with everyone here. Let us know how it goes.

Two possibilities - he didn't know about or realize the significance of the non-matching box, in which case a discussion may be in order, or he knew and was being deceptive. I'd still have the discussion, but if a partial refund or return doesn't result a factual feedback and appropriate grade about the deal may be in order.

It was a reasonable assumption . . . but it was an assumption since it was not stated as "matching box".

I agree with others that you should hold that discussion with the seller . . . you'll soon learn if it was an honest omission . . . but I don't think going to the mat on this one will be in your best interest.
