I have a Smith and Wesson M&P where the regular barrel was swapped out for a 2" barrel from apparantly a Model 10. My problem is that the width of the front sight is wider than that of the rear sight. Is it possible to switch the rear sights? Is it realistic when compared to widening that which is currently on the pistol? All of this is assuming that it is done by a competent gunsmith. thanks for listening!

An M&P is a fixed-sighted gun. The rear sight should be a slot in the
top of the frame, and the front sight should be a forged half-moon
blade, integral with the barrel.

If this is what you have, then there is no way to swap the rear sight,
or the front sight, for all that matters. The rear sight notch can be
widened by filing, or the front blade can be thinned by filing.

On the other hand, if your gun has adjustable rear sights, then you
can swap the rear sight blade for one with a wider notch, or the
existing blade can be filed wider.

Later, Mike Priwer
