After Christmas Sales

A major Columbus retailer "Lazuras'" had a deal one year. Open a charge account, get 50% off first days purchase of already sale prices! PLUS there was an additional 25% of the first month's bill!

I opened it up, loaded it up, and paid it off!

They also had good Jewelry sales just before Christmas and Valentin's Day. Along the lines of 50% off retail + 25 to 35% additional with coupon + additional 15 to 20% off if you use your store charge card. My wife got a number of leather coats and lots of jewelry (usually bracelets, broaches, and necklaces') One purchase took me 6 months to pay off, but it started at $14,000, after the sale gimmicks it was $4160. I know they still made money. But I have nice guns, because my wife has nice trinkets! Unlike clothes and appliances, used guns and used jewelry are worth something if you need it!

Back when I was a kid the parents would stock up on Christmas cards and decorations for the next year at the after Christmas sales. Now most of the decorations are sold out weeks before Christmas even gets here.

I've gone looking for Christmas cards after Christmas too. The trouble is the nearest card store is now 35 miles away.

My mother used to do most of her shopping at Lazarus, including furniture and appliances. They carried almost everything. There was only the one store then on High Street across from the State House. They had a truck that would deliver free anything she couldn't carry to Portsmouth once a week. Does Lazarus still exist?

Christmas Trees were a multiple use item. As as Christmas was over gather some from your neighbors and use them to replace those in your boat stall. Crappie love them.
We don't have Crappie down here but the Sac a Lait love the old christmas trees as well.
Me, I have a mysterous miscreant in my neighbothood that takes my old Christmas tree after I put it out and it doesn't get picked up and lights it on fire in my back yard fire pit. One day I'm gonna catch him.
