Potentially Fatal ?Knockout? Game Targeting Strangers May Be Spreading « CBS DC

When people see violence on movies and TV, they don't understand the difference between reality and fantasy. Our society is not only desensitized to violence, they revel in it. For example, in this video, these people do not understand that a person struck in the head may be left with permanent brain injuries ...or die. The victims do not go on to have normal lives as depicted in the movies. They have seizures, learning disorders, speech disorders, mood disorders, relationship problems, job problems ...and the list goes on.

Here is another example that any of us, including our precious loved ones, might be a victim of violent crime anytime, anywhere ...including a mall, restaurant, bank, theater, school, parking lot, parking garage, poor/affluent neighborhood, daytime/nighttime, with numerous people around, hiking/fishing/hunting location, our job ...and in our own home.

But of course, we know that crime only happens to those other kinds of people, not us normal people; and we can put the criminal on hold while we call 911 and wait for the police to arrive 20-120 minutes later, or longer sometimes ...to take a report. And besides, we know that all criminals can always be easily spotted and avoided. Criminals are never attractive, well-mannered, soft-spoken, well-groomed, well-dressed, or females; they're always males of another skin color that look and behave that certain way with the label on their forehead "criminal". And the "crazy" ones? We all know they don't think or feel like us, have the same emotions, or follow the "rules" of normal societal behavior; but we don't have to prepare or plan for them either. They're all taking their meds and locked up somewhere ...I think. Well, I'm pretty sure about all that.

Nonetheless, you and I will have to get out of our “happy place” ...our comfort zone ...if we take specific and thorough steps to prepare for the possibility (eventuality) of being a victim. It's like putting on a car seatbelt. Why do that? We know for certain that you and I will never have a car accident because we're always perfect drivers and we can always avoid that drunk or “stoned” driver or the person zoned out on their phone or radio. And having a fire extinguisher is another example; but you get the idea. I'm charmed with wisdom and good looks ...I mean good luck, so I don't need to be prepared for ...whatever. I’m happy, happy, happy. How about you?

*** is wrong with today's youth... How can anyone think it is ok to just hit random people like that...
Note to self. Self keep your distance more than usual when out and about and more so when youths are near by...

That's nuts. They're going to run into the wrong person one of these days and end up on the wrong end of their little "game".

The problem is that now that it's been sensationalized in the media, more teenagers are going to do it, we've seen it with buttchugging and the wrist-band sex parties. Everything the media declares the new crazy thing teenagers are doing, it suddenly spikes once the media announces it. Ever heard the bit about any publicity being good publicity. This is the case because teenagers are stupid. Some will see this report and say "gee that sounds fun, nah I won't kill anyone those are flukes."

I know I can be a bit cynical, on the plus side, most kids are smart enough to see that this is a stupid idea. Stay aware of your surroundings, this trend will pass soon; my entire generation and all the subsequent ones are easily distracted.

When this "game" was first mentioned in the press;
I really sat up and paid attention. The first targets
were old geezers that were not in the best physical
condition. Last time I saw somebody that fit that
description, was when I was shaving. IIRC, the first
victims didn't have to be any particular ethnicity. Just
needed to be available. Kinda makes me a little more aware
when I'm out and about.

Situational awareness is one thing, but there is no warning of these attacks. A firearm will do you no good if you're in a coma before you hit the sidewalk.

There is almost always a warning, you just have to be able to read the signals that these types of thugs send out, that is part of situational awareness, reading the signs.

Situational awareness means exactly that ... no walking around with your head in the clouds or up your ***. No dwelling on the issues with the spouse or the job, these is a time and a place for all of that, but not out in public.

Not to sound paranoid, but you have to live your life as if there are jackals running loose disguised as people, which there are. A soldier wouldn't walk around a combat zone like he was on the farm and you shouldn't walk around an urban area like you would in your own back yard.

I'm probably going to jinx myself, but I haven't been in a real fight in years ... DESPITE working as an LEO in the inner city of a major metropolitan city. Probably because I can read people, and I can tell what's coming and I know when to step up the level of force I'm using ... call for back up ... or get the hell out of there and come back with more cops.

Yes it took years of experience to get where I am now, but you should ALL know what's normal for your areas and what is not, and if that little voice in your head or your gut tells you "Something AIN'T right" ... LISTEN TO IT!

Like it was repeated to me in the academy over and over again many, many moons ago ... "Use your Head and Keep your Distance."

Always be thinking, always be observant, keep your distance from possible threats so you have time to either react ... or run. Running does not have to be the mark of a coward, in a situation where you are outnumbered or out classed, it is the wise thing to do.
