I'm new here. Back before Y2K, I had an option to choose between picking up a S&W Highway Patrolman and a Taurus 627 Tracker. Being as I was a young buck and it was my first purchase, I chose the Taurus (Because it was NEW, and the novelty of holding SEVEN rounds!). I liked, but never loved the Taurus, and sold it off during recent tough times.

Recently, I decided to repent of my past sins and find a Highway Patrolman to replace the Taurus. I am picking it up this week (Serial #S1889XX). Can someone give me an approximate age?

Thanks!

FarmingtonDave , I forgive you:) and WELCOME to the Forum!
Looking forward to the pics of your Highway Patrolman - there are alot of HP Fans here

I have S2011xx, 6", which is from 1960. You will love your new to you 28! My favorite handgun to date! Bob

Your past transgressions have been forgiven, nothing like getting rid of a bull and replacing it with a thoroughbred.

Past trangressions forgiven, now say three hail Highway Patrolman's and post pics. ;) Many folks with an appreciation for them here, and a wealth of knowledge as well. Congrats on a fine firearm, and an older "S" model to boot. :D

Thank you for all the replies. I will have it in my possession tomorrow, and photos will follow sometime tomorrow night, after a good cleaning and checkup.

When I had to sell off a few guns to pay the bills, I decided to sell the ones I wasn't too attached to. I also decided that when I replaced them, I'd be doing it with guns I actually WANTED to own, not just buy "good deals" that I come across. This will step #1!

I have it in my possession! It has some honest bluing wear around the muzzle, the grips are a bit dull and worn, a scuff on the bottom of the trigger guard and a cylinder drag line, but it locks up tight like a vault and should do everything I will ever ask of it. I'm excited already!

Oh, and there is also a weird Pachmayr grip insert between the trigger guard and the grip that I will be looking to remove.

I really had no complaints with the Taurus. It was accurate, nice and handled just fine. I guess it just had no soul, if that made sense. It was an accurate tool, but not much more than that.
