I have a new 686+ 3" Talo Smith I can't shoot/ handle/ carry enough! I love the look of the Rosewood grips that came with it but they were just too wide and long for concealing. I swapped them out for some Kingwood Hogue Boot grips that look and feel great - until I shoot some .357 Magnum loads. Then I wish my little finger was helping steady the recoil instead of just hangin' off the end!

With the prompting of other Forum posters, I took a look at Ahrend's Grips. I wonder if anyone out there has tried the Retro "Banana" Grips?

I'm hoping they are just long enough to get that last finger in on the act but small enough to conceal decently in an IWB holster. Any experience you could pass on would be greatly appreciated!

Bob, grips are such a person specific part of the equasion, and like many
others I'm sure, I've tried quite a few different grips until finding
what works best for my fairly large hands.

The guns pictured below pretty much represent what I like for concealed carry.
The smooth grips, Altamonts on the M64, allow my clothing to slip over them
easily and the BK Grip Adapters allow for a full, firm, hand-hold.

Using the grips alone shown on the J Frame pictured at the bottom, my pinky
finger doesn't even come close to fitting on the grip. When I add the adapter
my pinky fits fine and I add nothing that hinders concealment in the process.

Good luck in your "quest"! ;)

I have the retro banana but prefer the retro combat on a K,L frame or the tactical JMHO.

I have the round butt with finger grooves on a .44 Mag Mountain Gun. They're radiused at the bottom which breaks up their outline. Very concealable in an IWB (VM2) and comfortable to use.

With a heavy slug like a .44 Magnum, a longer grip helps control the torque. Its effect on felt recoil is minimal. My 3" has boot grips.
