"AIM SMALL - MISS SMALL"

I agree with Chief38, you need to be proficient at both target shooting and self defence, there is a difference. I know at least one man who is a bullseye shooter, a very good one but at IDPA he is slow because of his pin point shooting training. I think he can't break the shot unless everything is perfect. I don't think a whole lot of clearing jams etc, don't carry a gun that jams, they are out there get one. Guns that malfunction will get you killed. It comes down to a split second deal, hit what you shoot at before you have to reload.

I normally shoot at a 1" or 2" shoot-n-see target out to 25 yards.

I was at my local range about a year ago and the subject of pinpoint accuracy was being discussed. The only gun that I had with me at the time was a box stock Glock 17.

I borrowed a push pin from the range's cork board and inserted it through my target with the point facing me.

This video shows what happened (spoiler alert the pin got blown away).

I don't know of anything to use as a target that would be a smaller "aim small" target.

Glock 17L shooting the point of a pin - YouTube

This fan of the Glock 17L salutes you, Sir! I find the 17L also points really well for fast shooting. The late Steven A. Camp (a BHP expert whose writings I highly recommend), preferred the 17L to the slightly shorter Model 34.

More to the point of this thread, a capable handgunner needs to do both: whether pinpoint accuracy is needed or a fast defense against a close-in threat.

Honesty alert: I'm not even close to being there!
