Now that I am proud new owner of a M&P 10 would any of you recommend a AimPoint Pro with a 3X Eotech flip to the side multiplier? Use would be under 200 yards target and hunting.

I would definitely use an Aimpoint on a big Smith

When I was using the Aimpoint on the Big Smith, it was easy to make hits out to 300 yards on basketball sized targets. I really liked the setup- it was quick & accurate and would make a great combination for hunting in close cover or when fast shots are needed. No magnifier needed.

But if I needed or wanted magnification, I'd use a low powered variable instead. The swing away makes the rifle awkward when swung out of the way and if the magnifier is being used all the time, what's the point?

I agree with MW, a magnifier is not worth the extra bulk and weight. I'm using a trijicon accupoint tr24-3g on my m&p10. I mounted it in a bobro qd mount so i can switch it back and forth from my moe mid to the 10 without losing my zero. By far the best optic I've ever owned. Aimpoints are great optics,I just prefer a little magnification out past 100yd. A 1-4x scope is the best all round optic for the ar platform in my opinion. Good luck on your optics hunt.
