Does my Shorty 45 have the wrong guiderod?

Noticed this, wanted to run it by the forum. The guiderod on this gun does not stick out flush with the end of the slide, its recessed past the counterbored ring inside the slide. Doesn't seem to affect function, the gun 100%, and there's no wear inside there, but I have several other 3rd gens, and pc 3rd gens, and none of them are the same as this.
Is yours like this?

First, I'm no expert. But, it seems goofy to me that the rod is even with the barrel in the 2nd (retracted) photo, but backed off 1/4" when the slide is closed.

Any chance you have the recoil spring in backwards? I'm wondering if the coils are binding and not letting the rod slip through and poke through the hole in the front of the slide.

Something is not lining up, and the rod is pushed back due to not slipping into that hole. My opinion, only.

That recoil spring guide rod looks short to me. It should protrude slightly with slide forward and should sit about 1/4" forward of the barrel with the slide locked back. Maybe someone swapped in a Chief's Special guide rod?

I initially thought your rod is too short, but now I'm not sure. The rods are flush on my PC .45 CQB and .356TSW Carry.

I don't own a Shorty 45, but I did an online search for one and came up with this photo from an old GI listing:

That rod is obviously not flush either. What are the odds of two different Shorty 45's having undersized replaced guide rods? I suspect that's how they left the factory.

In looking through the online photos, I found that one also. That is one of the ads the seller had posted of my gun.
There are surprisingly few online photos of the muzzle without the slide retracted, but I did find this. Seems like the guiderod should sit a few mm farther out than the barrel, but mine is flush.

Got my Shporty45 and my 45Recon out and did some measuring . The Shorty's recoil rod measured 3.38 and the Recon's 3.45 . Don't know why , neither has been shot hardly at all ,so they should be almost identical . Anyways , here's some pic's , didn't feel like breaking out the .3566 , S&W Chad had that covered .IMG_2905.webpIMG_2903.webp
