Air Aces

I watched it and thought it was great. Looking forward to next week.

A good look at Buzz Buerling. Not many people know of his war exploits. I take umbrage with calling the Canadian pilots misfits. One must remember that most of them were small town boys or farm boys having little exposure to structured organisations, so they stood out. However, their performance was superb.

Watched it, liked it. Love the Spitfires!
Altho some technical errors - they could use some better technical advisors.
Next one is Douglas Bader - a big pusher of the "big wing" during the Battle of Britain. Not a fan of Bader.

The Bader episode was fairly even-handed, I thought, including mentioning that some historians maintain Bader exaggerated his exploits.

This series looks pretty promising, even if there are a few technical errors.

Sadly most of these shows have some howlers regarding the equipment.

As for Bader, opinion about him is mixed, even in the UK. During the "Big Wing" controversy, Bader and Trafford Leigh-Mallory made a team that would have had the Borgias well worried. He was also an outspoken critic of putting cannons on Spitfires at a time when the Germans were up-armouring their aircraft. Yes, the Hispano wing installation had some initial issues, but it became a very effective weapon.

Bader's efforts in promoting disabled folk in his later life was laudable.

Man I wish I had The Military Channel. Hope they cover Richard Bong and Tommy Mcguire, our number one and two Ace's of WWII. Both P-38 pilots by the way.

I watched the show yesterday on D. Bader....very good. What's not to like about a Spitfire!

Steel

It's good to see some history on the History Channel.

My favorite shows almost always have WWII fighters featured.

They still continue to get things wrong.

When comparing the Hurricane to the Spitfire, instead of the Spitfire being all metal, they said it was steel.

Wow it must have been real heavy.

I also heard that the Lancaster was steel on the story about the bomber crew.

It must be true. It was on the television.
