I acquired a few old boxes of Alcan 12 gauge shells. Does anyone know if these are worth anything. A collectible? Any info is appreciated.

I am not a collector but I do know that the boxs, some times bring more money than tha ammo, if in good shape.

Alcan is an old name and might be worth some money, to some.

Good luck.

Nice boxes and a nice find. Ammo is worth almost as much as a new box of ammo. 1st plastic cases... so date from late 60s-70s. 2nd they are 12 ga. Small gauge are worth considerably more. And even if you shoot them they won't compare to ammo made today(technology wise any way). I'd keep 'em and maybe display them as curios...and if ya ever need ammo in the future...well there they are. I've got older paper shells that are no more collectible but still neat to have. Some younger folks would like to look at older stuff like you have. Keep 'em!! Good find

Somewhat collectible but not high value items. Post 62 production plastic hulls but the boxes are really nice and clean. Worth about the same as current ammo but a collector might give a couple bucks for the box itself. In my experience there aren't many shotshell collectors (compared to 22's which are the most popular based on what actually sells) and many only collect the empty boxes. Much easier (and lighter) to store and display. There are collectors of individual shotgun shells but the plastic hull stuff doesn't bring much unless it's unusual in some way or a less common gauge.

Thanks for the info, I usually don't get rid of anything... I was just wondering about them.

When I was living in Ohio back in the early 1970s, a discount store there had Alcan shells on sale for a pretty good price and I bought a full case of 12 gauge. I still have several full boxes somewhere, and if I can find them I will post a picture. There are at least two box designs that I know of. I wouldn't expect that they have any significant collector value today. In 100 years, things may be different.

I remember shooting those when I didn't have enough money as a teenager to buy anything else. They were always the cheapest you could find and worked pretty well but had a strange smell after you fired them. This thread brought back some old memories.

The price tag was my guide too ... I think I have a few half boxes squirreled away in the gun cabinet ...but they all beat up and ratty .
I still have Alcan Primers and powder ...2 cans Alcan #5 ..
It was cheap . The powder is 45 years old and still in good condition ... I load 38 Special with it during "Shortages" !

The box of shells is full, they are good but the box is a bit worse for wear. The Alcan powder can is empty.

I used to buy Alcan shot shells at the local Kmart back in the early 1970's. The first clay pigeon I ever broke was with an Alcan.

I found 2 boxes of Alcan primers at a gun show a couple years ago. I think I paid $10 per box of 1000. I loaded them up and they all worked as they should.
