I love revolvers so this year I think I'm going to shoot Steel Challenge Rimfire Pistol Iron with my 617.

It's been highly modified with an Apex Tactical Mass Drive Hammer, Power Custom Springs and Extended Firing Pin, and a set of Hogue Big Butt Grips. All the polishing and internal work was done by me except the timing was worked on by Nelson Ford, ,"The Gunsmith" Phoenix Arizona.

This gun is set up with an 8 pound double action pull and 2.5 single Action. Although I almost never shoot single action except when benching the gun it sure is nice.

I want to shoot Federal BYOB .36 grain HP because I can shoot 300 rounds before cleaning the cylinders. I may need to go to 8.5 pounds DA.

Apex says I can go down as low as 6.5 pounds double action. I tried and could only get a few brands of .22s to work 100% of the time so I increased the tension of the Main Spring and got it to work right. My rebound spring is a 12 pounder so that I can't outrun the trigger on return.

Right now my main fodder is Federal HV Gold and it work 100%. I do have to clean the cylinders about every 60 rounds and I keep an electric drill in my shooting bag with a nylon brush to clean between stages at the Steel Challenge Matches.

I made my own holster and I'm using DS-10 Speed Loaders with a rack from Revolver Supply Co and one of their bags for capturing my loaders between stages. I also use it to dump my empties so that I don't have to pick up my brass and separate live from spent cartridges.

I'm lucky enough to have 19 DS-10s. They are the best and fastest way to recharge your 617. He also makes them for other .22 revolvers. Over the years I bought most of my loaders but was given 5 from DS-10 as well as others from friends that won them on the prize tables but didn't shoot a 617 and gave them to me. I'm blessed with a lot of good friends.

The newest DS-10s are easier to grab and I find them to be faster to reload.

Here's my setup with a C-More Red Dot and another of my holsters.
