Was one box of .22lr shotshells. (I have plenty of magnum snakeshot) None, nada, nowhere. Five LGS.
Went back to the ammo chest. Have a partial box of the old collectable crimp type. Found six of the modern plastic loads.

Now the tree rats are in trouble. Gotta be discrete in town.
Not that I would discharge a firearm in the City limits, that would be illegal.

Maybe I'll get a "Have-A-Heart" trap. Naaaaaaaaa.

CCI plastic 22LR shotshells will NOT kill a bushy-tailed tree rat up in the tree. I've managed to kill one snaky-tailed rat, at about eight feet, and shot another one five times at about ten feet. Ever shot he jumped and changed direction, so I presume I hit him each time, but he never stopped, and I never smelled him, so he did not crawl off in a corner and die.

I've decided they are not worth much. Sure ain't worth what they cost.

Aquila Super Colibri, on t'other hand, works fine on tree rats, and is much quieter than the shotshells.

Au Contraire, mi amigo. I killed two last week. Close range @ 15 ft. One I had to finish with a cb cap to the head. The other went dead plop!
This, of course, is just fiction as it would be illegal to discharge a weapon in town. Besides, my Crossman 2100 Classic is louder.

I had been thinking about when you used to see the old .30-30 Accelerator loads with the .22 caliber bullet stuffed in them I think it was. I was wondering how feasible that would be to do with say a .308 or the aforementioned .30-30. Get a couple of 55 grain bullets and a sabot and maybe go squirrel hunting. I of course have in my backup plan, my .32 muzzleloader. I can still get plenty of those little 40 grain roundballs whenever I like.

I fired the Colibri 22's at an indoor range at 50'. In the scope you could see the "pellet" flying in a 12 to 14 inch spiral. The accuracy was very very good about 1/4" group but your distance must be constant or the bullet would be way off. It took about a tenth of a second to arrive on target (a tree rat can be gone a long time in a tenth of a second.) Out of my rifle the noise was about half of my paint ball gun. The Super Colibri are a lot faster but still sub-sonic. Ivan

PS. For a plinker round in 30-30, use a 0 buck shot and no powder, It might need a large rife Magnum primer or not. I have also loaded 32-20 projectiles (sized .308) to 1800 fps in a 30-30 case for a light varmint load. The Remington "Accelerator" loads were in 30-30, 308 and 30-06 I had a Savage 340 in 30-30 with Accelerators it did about 2" at 100 yards. The 117 cast lead flat nosed bullet did about 1/2 inch! Any of these loads with gun powder are way too loud for in town. Ivan
