All in one computer any good?

"I had an old 19" CRT sitting on the floor in the living room. That saved me a good $100 and a trip to the store."

For some time, our local Goodwill has refused to accept CRT monitor donations. About a year ago, I had a perfectly good 19" CRT monitor which had been retired for a long time. My usual method of disposal is to set anything I don't want but is still usable on the curb in front of my house for anyone who wants it to take it. It took four days for someone to take that monitor.

"I'm just not sure if email, internet cruising and a little word processing or spread sheets type stuff you even need anything more than a tablet / I-pad."

On a Black Friday sale last year, I bought some off-brand Android tablet for $30 just to try it because it was so cheap. I am surprised at its capabilities. If you have a Wi-Fi connection, it's fully capable of doing e-mail and web browsing. I bought a simple case and plug-in keyboard for it off eBay for about $10, and the keyboard really helps (I hate the on-screen keyboard). My wife has adopted it mainly for downloading and reading books, plus playing games. She carries it with her everywhere. Surprising how many good books are available for free downloading.

A couple of weeks ago, while I was reloading Ubuntu on my server, the flat screen monitor died. I had an old 19" CRT sitting on the floor in the living room. That saved me a good $100 and a trip to the store.

Bachelorhood... those were the days.

Wife won't let me store motorcycle or computer parts in the living room anymore.

Our local Samaritan Center has quite a few pallets stacked high with CRTs for months sitting outside in the rain. Must have something of some value in em.

They doubtless have a certain amount of precious metals in them. However monitors can be dangerous to open up due to retained voltages.
