All of a sudden front night sight is invisible,

Ok my S&W 1911SC E series is less than a month old and only has 50 rounds through it so far. Now the black scandium frame is delicate to the touch and scratches very easy and is anoing but I was willing to live with it. This morning I went to holster my 1911 at 4 am as I do everyday out of my bedside gun safe in the dark so not to bother my wife. I immediately noticed I could not see the front sight. This really annoys me because me because if I had to deal with an intruder in my home with no ability to line up on the front sight in the dark since this is a feature that I am accustomed to with this firearm. Not only that but a just laid out $1200 for this item. It's a beutiful gun but there are some issues. Has this happened to anyone else? I will be calling customer service at Smith & Wesson this week. Never the less I am irritated

I sympathize with you 100%. I have a sig that is 3 mo old and is getting its 3rd front site because all the rest went dead. The CS try to tell you it was a bad batch that affected only a few guns but I think that is BS as it has happened to me on 2 different guns made a year apart.

See who makes the sights,I would like to know where the problem lies. Mine are made by Meproite for Sig. I am going to put a differen't brand on this time around.

Night sites use tritium which is a radioactive gas sealed in a vial, if it leaks out the site goes dead. IMO Trijicon makes the most reliable sites but even they have failures, you are dealing with tiny vials and a tiny amount of gas.

I didn't know that thank you. I can understand how they fail then. I will contact customer service today. I could drive out there but is a 2 hour ride. I'll probably just ship it out. I hate being without it but what can you do.

i am very sorry about this. that is a gorgeous pistol. Send it to me and ill drive over to Houlton and get ya some new ones :-D and test it out at the range too! haha.

Smith and wesson should send you a repair tag and fix this pretty quick. i've never seen a scandium frame scratch up like that. i have the 1911 PD in scandium and its a tank.

S&W usually uses Trijicon nite sites....I think I would make a call to Trijicon as well and see what they have to offer you.

Well the gun is brand new and I have some other issues with it that are basically cosmetic in nature. Since I will send it in over the sight issue I might as well have this delt with too

I talked to them this morning and just got back from dropping it off at S&W out in Springfield. I will probably get it back in about a week or so. They said the night sight was not an issue and they told me to wright up the scratches in the blueing and said they will see what they can do. The 1st rep I spoke with pretty much told me it was something that was very common with the tolerances and the finish on the blue guns & their wasn't much that can be done about it. I called back later to say I was going to just drop it off and the second rep said to write up anything you can think of including the scratches and they will see what they can do. So I dropped it off this afternoon and will have them Fed-ex it back to me when it's done. I'll let you know what happens and update it with pictures.
